Default Engine choking after or in a rain storm

Hi all,
I have a Airaid air filter on my 2003 C5. After the car is parked out in the rain water coming down the hood flows directly down into the filter through the front gap of the hood.

Then when I drive it home merging unto a freeway under hard acceleration the engine cuts out unless I let off the gas. It eventually evens out after what I am guessing the filter gets rid of the water.

Now yesterday during a heavy rain it would do that just under normal driving.

Anyone Have/Had and offer a fix?

Thanks
Doc

That's a good way to hydrolock an engine.

This might help:

Been getting some heavy rain the past few days, haven't had any issues with my Vararam fortunately. Seems like quite a crappy design if it's letting your engine get too much water in the rain. Might be time to consider a different CAI, especially if you're going to continue driving it in the rain and leaving it outside.

Callaway Honker would be a good (pretty much only) California legal intake.

Probably best to avoid rain until you get it fixed.

Take a good look at it and decide how water is getting in. Shut the hood when everything is very dry and use a hose to splash water into the engine bay to see how it gets in and from what angles.

Then take corrective measures. Cut a piece of aluminum or plastic to cover areas you notice the water is splashing in. You can alternatively move the air filter, add plumbing curves or a trap door water to collect and release, like a factory box.

Or just keep the factory box in the car because it does all of that.

Is the AirRaid a non-oiling type? An oiled filter media should have one advantage; repelling water. But a hood seal should fix that up.

I have a hood seal on my car (Blackwing installed) and no water gets to the filter. You can get the seal at any hardware or auto parts store.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately I no longer have the factory box. Going to try a simple rubber seal first

Thanks, my concerns exactly but this is my daily driver so I think I have a fix from another forum member through West Coast Corvettes to try first. It doesn't rain that much here but still...
