The bone stock c5 z06 in 2002 did zero to sixty in 4 flat...I'd hardly call that slow.

So a twin turbo Z06 with 1200 HP is slow compared to a space shuttle. That doesnt means its slow. This ridiculous nonsense is like saying since hillary clinton isnt as evil and corrupt as Hitler, she isnt evil or corrupt at all. Or since my bike will smoke a Z06 with ease, the Z06 is slow. America has certainly lost its cognitive thinking skills.

My 03 Coupe is my back road, chill out cruiser, cruise control set about 60 mph with the radio on, checking out the fields and homes. Does have a Corsa system that was put on by the 1st owner. At my age of 74, the go fast bug and spending money chasing it is pretty much history.
Totally agree. Cruising in my '98 with the top down is glorious. Days of racing away from the red lights are over, smooth sailing only. Must be my age...

I’m 70 yrs old, the kids married an gone. Finally got my dream car. Spending the money on myself now and having fun. I would have liked a split window but out of my wallet range. Vette has 40k on it, all original, kept in garage 21 yrs. Has some trophies for being stock and spotless. Got it in November so I put it away for winter, start it up and move around the block but can’t wait to take the top off this spring and cruise around with the better half. The car is spotless not a mark on it, lucky to find a Vette in this shape but the corvettes I see on the street are also spotless. Hope my health holds out so I can put a few miles on the car. Always wanted a Vette, now I finally got one. 70 yrs young.

My nice Torch Red 98 coupe is almost as fast in the 1/4 as my 67 C2 vert was, and is certainly faster top end. I'll never know for sure because my high speed days are in my past. I know that its brakes are at least as good and it handles better in the turns, I have tried THAT out. It gets a lot of attention from other people, I have to pop the hood to let them see its engine when I get gas. I get a chuckle out of their amazement when I tell them it is 20 years old, and averages 25 mpg and will get 31 mpg on the interstate cruising at 80. In the food store parking lot women offer to take it off my hands for an even trade. It gets a lot of attention from the local pickup guys too. I'm not sure if they want to race, or if they want me to burn its tires so they can watch it go fast. I don't do that stuff any more either.
For me, its fun driving a car that other people think is fast, and looks as good as anything they'll see. I would think that people would know the different Vette models and realize that mine is an older car, if they do, they don't seem to care. I found one guy looking it over as I came back to it, he chatted with me for 20 minutes about the car. wanted to know why its paint looked like 'mercury'. That stopped me for a moment, then I realised he was referring to its 'wet paint look'. He had trouble believing most of the finish is still original factory paint.
No, I don't win races any more, but I take satisfaction from the attention it gets.

Just about EVERY stock Corvette I've driven is simply fast and FUN.
I love them all.

I'm one of those people that think stock c5's are slow and autos are dogs but that's my opinion(no offense to you guys). Everything I raced when it was stock would keep up or I would barely beat and I consider myself a decent driver so it's not "drive mod" I started with bolt ons but even then whats a extra 20-30 hp? Nothing so I stepped up and went with a blower. I made 668rwhp and finally I was happy. I get on it daily( when it's running lol) and on it hard there are plenty of places and open deserted roads. Plus blower/cam sound is just music. Stock is fine for a lot of people but there is nothing like smashing the gas peddle and getting put back in your seat..Stock vette...not so much..
I drove my buddies 1000 hp vette..Now that is what I consider fast

I've read on here before members saying stock C5 Corvettes are slow.
Mine (convertible, T56) is still factory since getting it April or May 2003.
It's cool weather in Arizona and I'm sure the low temps help the performance a lot, much better than summer.
Anyways, I disagree stock C5 is a slow car, at least the T56 cars, never drove a automatic C5.
99% of the time I can never go WOT, and if I do it's just a few seconds getting on a freeway and then I back off and cruise in 6th gear.
On regular roads with traffic lights/stop signs there is so much traffic there is really no chance to stomp it.
All these years I've had all these ideas to enhance the performance, a cam, and headers.
Then you need better heads to take advantage, and might as well get a LS6 intake or a FAST intake, might need 4.10 gears for that cam.
Oh, don't forget the upgraded clutch and drive train brace.
Then there was magnachargers, but need new hood, and it will just peel out too easy.
At last the A and A or East Coast supercharger kits seemed to make the most sense.
Then there was a video of a C5 Z06 with one of those, losing to a C6 Z06.
Maybe it's best to just leave it stock, certainly saves $$, use that $ to go on road trips, and also it will most likely be more reliable and retain decent mpg.
It still pulls out away from most cars with no trouble, just slightly easing into throttle and run up to 3000 rpm, hit 2nd gear gently and do same, by 3rd gear very little throttle then shift to 4th, look in mirror big gap from other cars. 😀
I only do that once in a while for fun.

I am contemplating Centri SC for my M6 C5. If you dont mind my asking, what happened to your stock cast piston engine per the autopsy?

A c5 may not be the fastest car around these days, but I'd hardly consider them slow. My gear banging days are behind me so I looked at the C5 as a "total package" car. Good power, fantastic looks, nice handling, terrific mileage and great dependability. Just to kick in a bit more performance feel I had a cold air intake installed, exhaust upgraded and had it dyno tuned by a good shop. Sure there are a fair number of new rides out there pumping out tons of horses, but the looks leaves me pretty cold. Just my opinion but most just can't compete with the looks of a clean C5 motoring down the road on a beautiful day. And at bargain basement prices these days. Hard to beat! Have a good one!

1997 stock way to fast for me at 70 yrs old, but it’s fun

My C5 is stock. It had a cold air intake on it when I bought it. I removed it and put a stock air intake system on it.
It is plenty fast for me. I am to old to worry about how fast I can go. I have had a C1, 2 C2s, 2 C3s and 3 early C4s all were small blocks and the C5 is faster than any of them, it is plenty good for what I do.

I just upgrade to my 98 T56 coupe from my stock 74 4speed coupe. I feel like I’m in a rocket ship.

Went from an 02 mn6 with a Pro-Charger and 475 WHP to my stock 04 mn6. The 02 was fun but with the exception of taking friends for rides or getting on the freeway I really didn't use the power that much so for the other 99.5% of the time the 04 is just fine. Go with what ever makes you happy.

People who think the C5 is slow are comparing them to today's 600, 700, or 800 hp or more cars, which I think is a ridiculous comparison...of course vehicles that are 20 years are newer are going to be faster...I just don't understand the need to compare the C5 to today's vehicles...we don't compare C1s to todays vehicles and call them slow, so why is the C5 comparison made?

A 1000 hp car is overkill for the street. You can’t get 5 tenths out of a 1000 hp car on the street. A C5 has more than enough power for street use. And it’s not slow. It’s relative! I have had 5 C5’s with over 500 hp, and you simply cannot use every bit of horsepower on the street without doing stupid speeds. My current C5 is mostly stock and runs great.
Cars like the Demon and Hellcat are also overkill for the street, and can't possibly use all of their power. What's the point, so you can drive around with the feeling of being king of the street? I'd much rather have something like that C5 that is much more competent in all performance aspects, which is something you can actually use on the street...
