Default 2000 performance upgrades

About 6 months ago a former student of mine contacted me after 30plus years and said he quit his job with Lingenfelter and is working for the General Motors racing division. He is currently making mods to his 2016 Camero to the tune to around 850 hp. I asked him what it would take to increase the hp by 50-75hp on my 2000 Vette. He said three things. First get a good set of headers, second a good exhaust system, and finally a good computer tune. He said it could be done for around $5000. After thinking about it I question weather it would be easier to sell my car and take the $5000 and buy a 2008 that already has 430hp. Also does anyone have any idea as to the hp gained by a good tune up alone. Any thoughts?

Specialized knowledge and equipment are involved in perforance tuning and the average garage is unlikely to have either.
What you be your guess as to the cost of a tune and what kind of hp increase might I expect

Welcome. A good tune will generally cost you in the $350-450 range.

We found some pictures the summer I bought the car (5/12) but my wife, who is the computer expect, can't get them to post on the forum. Neither of us are great on the computer. Sometimes I get my grandkids to help out.

Default performance tune

I have a question regarding a tune for any Corvette. If you can get an additional 10-20 hp from a good tune why don't GM just tune the cars to the max before they leave the factory. With the hp war going on among manufacturers you would think they would want to showcase as much hp as could get from the stock engine. Any thoughts?

The quick answer to your question is that these cars came with a warranty and they tuned them from the factory to be safe. They wanted them to run rich enough so they would not detonate with bad gas causing engine problems (warranty repairs). By getting a tune alone to get the AFR in check you can pick up around 12-15 rwhp not doing anything else to the car. With headers and catback you will pick up around 30 rwhp +/- what system you put on. Catback system is for sound only on these cars, you don't get any performance benefit out of them for the most part.

Welcome to the Madness. Nice Car.
