2000 performance upgrades
About 6 months ago a former student of mine contacted me after 30plus years and said he quit his job with Lingenfelter and is working for the General Motors racing division. He is currently making mods to his 2016 Camero to the tune to around 850 hp. I asked him what it would take to increase the hp by 50-75hp on my 2000 Vette. He said three things. First get a good set of headers, second a good exhaust system, and finally a good computer tune. He said it could be done for around $5000. After thinking about it I question weather it would be easier to sell my car and take the $5000 and buy a 2008 that already has 430hp. Also does anyone have any idea as to the hp gained by a good tune up alone. Any thoughts?

Performance
Don't mistake a "tune up" with a tune. Totally different things!!
A "tune up" generally refers to replacement of parts that deteriorate over time such as spark plugs. plug wire, fuel filter, air filter etc.
A tune is short for performance tune and involves changes to the settings in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) such as amount of fuel, timing, transmission shift points and much more. Specialized knowledge and equipment are involved in perforance tuning and the average garage is unlikely to have either.

Welcome. A good tune will generally cost you in the $350-450 range.

performance tune
I have a question regarding a tune for any Corvette. If you can get an additional 10-20 hp from a good tune why don't GM just tune the cars to the max before they leave the factory. With the hp war going on among manufacturers you would think they would want to showcase as much hp as could get from the stock engine. Any thoughts?
