Default Having Trouble Finding Hockey Pucks?

Having trouble finding hockey pucks to use for jack pads? I was too. Also, my patience was short and I did not want to wait for Amazon to ship them to me. I ended up cutting some 3" lengths of 2x4 (so I ended up with a rectangular chunk of pine 1.5" tall, 3" wide and 3.5" long). I took a carpet remnant from menards and cut pieces 3" x 3.5" to go on top for a little bit of protection for the frame. I drilled pilot holes in the centers and screwed in some #2 eye bolts. Viola. They worked like a charm. I listened carefully for popping and cracking as I went up with it. Everything was quiet and they looked perfect when I was finished lifting the car.

Here are the blocks I made.
Here is my alternate method of jacking. I use 2x6's with 2x4 blocks near the ends that mate up to the ends of the front and rear cross members. The 2x6's (so far) have held well enough to not bend hardly at all when I lift with a single jack from the center. This keeps the pressure on the ends of the crossmembers while still allowing a single jack to lift the car. I know there are fancier pieces of equipment that accomplish the same task, but this was very inexpensive and easy to put together.

How can you have a hard time? Wouldnt wall mart have them? Up here in Canada we got canadian tire...pucks are like a dollar each..

But the would seems okay...just make sure it doesnt split on you.

I think your concern is a reasonable one. I think they will split, probably from the hole drilled for the anchors. I applaud your ingenuity but I would be very careful jacking the car up with those wooden pucks.

OP where are you located? Any sporting goods store has to have hockey pucks.

I was in a bit of a pinch when I made these. I had the front wheels off and lowered my jack all the way to let the front end sit on the lowered jack while I worked on something else. Well, my jack (worn out) wouldn't lift with the limited amount of handle travel available with the car lowered all the way. So there she sat until I figured something out.

I went to menards to look for something nylon to make them out of. Some high strength nylon would be ideal I think.

This is too funny I have to say it. I can buy hockey pucks at the gas stations here in Edmonton Alberta Canada. One advantage to living up here! One of the few...………….

If you're near a skating rink there should be plenty. Just ask some skaters. I feel sure that they will oblige you.
Good luck!

I ordered mine online. I think I paid $5 for 4 pucks, maybe $2 for shipping, They are easy to find and Google is your friend.
