Seat Foam - Are all the same
Hey folks, getting ready to pull the trigger on new seat covers. Need to replace foam at the same time. I have been searching and most vendors are about the same price, product pics look all the same. For those of you who have replaced the foam where did you purchase and how was the quality? TIA.

I purchased from Corvette America. I used to sit really low and now I sit normal height. I also put the seat repair kit in at the same time.

Melting Slicks
Several vendors note changes or improvements to help resist the breakdown factory foam suffered, particularly common to the bolster pockets and where the wires tend to cut through the bottom foam. Some have the velcro bonded on, others molded in. I ended up with Corvette America by way of Wilcox on a 20% off sale. Bolster pockets were reinforced, velcro is well attached -- though I couldn't tell whether it was molded in or bonded, but the bottom of the seat foam was just foam. Was very easy to add some flat jute sheet to the bottoms to protect from the wires. Too soon to know for the long haul, but so far I am very, very pleased.

Sounds like you have received some good recommendations. Good luck with your decision and the replacement of the seat foam.

Thanks everyone. I am going with interior innovations for the seat covers. Appears like I have a couple of choices on the foam. Thanks again.

Good luck on your ‘adventure’. My current one is replacing all of the interior carpeting, which is also a bit more tedious than I expected.

Bullitt, just a some friendly advice, it’s very easy to make the seat firm. Ballistic nylon between the foam and spring wires is a first step, you can then add jute padding which will firm it up even more. Firming up the side bolsters can be a little tricky because they have depressions where the fiberglass wings fit to keep the sides in place. The problem is i material is added, getting the leather over them will be really tough. I almost added some memory foam from some pillows we were getting rid of, but that stuff is impossible to cut!
Good luck on your ‘adventure’. My current one is replacing all of the interior carpeting, which is also a bit more tedious than I expected.

Are you just replacing the seat bottom foam? It’s the easier part of the job, believe me!

At 50k miles mine was shot too. Foam breaks down, and IMO its a material that has improved over the years. The new foam is much denser than the old, and I think GM dropped the ball by not protecting the bottom. The underside of my seat foam looked like it started to go thru a bread slicer then stopped.

I have my suspicions that a majority of vendors get their seat foam from Corvette America. Again just my suspicion.
When I redid my covers I cut apart the old bottoms and used the leather insert portion to place atop the the wires on the bottom frame. . A lot of guys will use carpet pieces, nylon, etc, etc.
Here's my How-To :

Oh hell yeah! Daily driver.
Need might be a strong word...
It was 40 degrees this morning. Last few weeks have been a bit chilly in the morning, some days getting down to freezing. Comfort man... Small proce to pay for the 3 to 4 months of usage.

Seat foam is not all the same guys.. I did a write up on this a few years back so if you'd like to know the differences go take a look at this PDF.
