Default BMW Cupholders

So, I watched a video the other day on the top 10 worst cupholders. One of the ones listed were the cupholders from a 2008ish 3 series bmw. Which I found odd as I found these were really cool design. Couldn't hold very big drinks such as a gatorade bottle, but then again, good luck finding a cupholder for that. Either way, I liked em. Which gave me an idea.

The c5 has a "flat"ish panel directly underneath the passenger airbag. And the best part is its empty/nothing too important that can't be modified or moved. Which is where I was thinking these would go well there. Just above the glove back, underneath the passenger airbag. What do ya'll think?

Might work. I gave up on a cup holder in the Z06. I wrap my 20 oz. coffee thermos cup like a newborn baby with towels and stick it in the left side trunk storage hole. Then I have my coffee after I get to work. Was the C5 on the list for the top 10 worst? If you have a stick, the factory cup holder is 110% useless.

Yup, I have a manual transmission. You are 100% right. Everytime I shift, it's hold drink, depress clutch, change gears, hold drink, slowly release clutch, & continue on. It's ridiculous which is why I've been looking for something else. I like the cupholders by the feet, but it's right by the torque tube tunnel. If you have a cold drink, it won't be cold for long. There's a folding one that I quite liked (looked like a cupholder out of a plane) that folds down, then arms come up to hold drink and bam. Cupholder. This.

If anyone knows where to get this cupholder, let me know. I'd be interested.

Goggle "Clear Option cup holder" they will come up. Make sure you order driver side and passenger side they are different. ( in C5 ). I have them they work great fold up when not in use and fits different size bottles or cups.

Also Ebay has cup holder part and you could attach that to plexiglass , metal, wood.

Most RV shops sell the holder. I got mine at Camper World and attached them to a sheet of Plexiglas and it rests on the passenger side of the console

I agree. It's a great product. It was the first "mod" I did to my Vette, and it works great.

Do a search for fold up cup holder.........you will find lots of options. I have used these in several cars over the years with good results.

I just wish any of these options would hold a 20 oz bottle of soda. It does makes sense for the 0.5L water bottles, however, I couldn't imagine ever driving with a can of soda without the ability to seal it back up.

The stock holder can't hold my phone, let alone liquid. I'd send it flying on the first corner. For now I'll just grab my soda either before or after I leave, I gues.

When I did my double din mod I just filled mine in. I don’t drink hot stuff, so the cold drinks I just hold it between my legs.

Don’t do it! One of my DD’s is a 2008 BMW. Love the car and will buy another bimmer but the cup holders suck. You’re correct they don’t do well with large cups/bottles but there are other issues. I’ve had two broken when a passenger got out of the car and forgot to
Push in the cup holder. Very unstable and it tends to point downwards. There are a number of other reliable options as discussed in some of the other posts. I suggest you go that route!
