Default Mag Ride or no in a Used C5

If I remember correctly the sticker price of replacement mag ride shocks is extremely high, like $800 each or so. Would you avoid mag ride equipped cars?

I just bought my first C5 yesterday (that is why I am cruising the forum to learn more about my new toy!). I did a ton of research before choosing my C5. I actually looked to avoid Mag Ride. If you can live without it (I know I can), I would say avoid it. One less thing to maintain/ repair.

Thanks for your response! I've actually had it on an '04 c5 I've owned. It's essentially useless and I definitely DO NOT want it. The problem is that it's on some cars that I otherwise would like. Just afraid of the repair cost if it goes south.

F45 can be eliminated using resistors (10 Watt 10 Ohm) at each wheel or by deleting the RPO from the BCM. F55 cannot be eliminated by the use of resistors. Either RPO F45 or F55 can also be deleted from the BCM using a Tech II or Tech II clone. Procedure is well documented on the Forum to eliminate the F55 using a Tech II or Tech II clone.

Once eliminated from the BCM conventional shocks can be installed without errors displayed in the DIC and without the 80MPH speed limitation.
Thanks! Good to know.

I have an 03, and I kind of wish I had it, but I also replaced my shocks with 2013 Z06 shocks which was a big upgrade, and significantly cheaper than replacing the mag shocks when they go and by now on a 2003, (which I bought in 2007) that cost would have gone to me. If you can manage to find an 03/04 that has the mag ride and the shocks were replaced I would buy it personally, it's pretty neat, but if not, you can always upgrade to newer Z06 shocks.

Almost everyone universally agrees the magnetic shocks do their job well, though they won't get as stiff as track oriented shocks. Why do you say yours was useless?

It wouldn't stop me from buying a car that has fully operational F55 shocks, but when it came time to replace them, I would most likely go with conventional shocks and have the F55 deleted.

Default kinda like it, but subtle

I find the settings don't make a very noticeable difference in ride stiffness and sense plenty of overlap between settings when speed increases. WIth varying roughness in Kalif roads, I use it, and bump the setting up a notch with a passenger.

Yes, I could live w/o it.
