Shipping my corvette
I am shipping my 2002 corvette from Houston to Las Vegas anything special I need to watch for? I would assume the shipping company would know the precautions?

I have used Intercity to ship Corvettes for me on several occasions. They know how to move Corvettes. Enclosed and covered, you can maintain phone contact with the driver, no drop ships. You will be pleased.
The last one I shipped:
68 big block
Another one: 61 fuelie
69

I used FEDEX from Vancouver, B.C. to Pennsylvania. They dropped the car in front of my house (enclosed) without a scratch. Most reasonable of all I checked out... They had 6 others on board headed for Florida...

There are several good transporters out there, as mentioned. I have used Passport Transport because they are relatively local for me. They handle all precautions and logistics. If concerned, take lots of date stamped pictures before loading. Also mentioned, work directly with the company and not a subcontractor.
Here is a pic from my last experience. Delivered to my door.

I can't say we're the most expensive or the cheapest, I don't work in the office but, we'll get your car there quick and damage free. Callaway Corvettes uses Plycar exclusively for all their vehicles. Rest assured you are not going to get some amateur that doesn't know what their doing, the cost of the transport and merchandise is too great a liability.
Hope that we can earn your business and good luck on whatever you decide to go with.
Best regards, Tom M.

I will throw my hat in the ring to offer my company's transport service. I drive an enclosed transport for Plycar Automotive Logistics which delivers to 48-States and Canada. We have corporate offices in NY, Florida, Texas, Illinois, and California. I personally have transported countless Corvettes from the NCM, Callaway, dearlerships, and to residential areas. That's not even including the Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Aston Martin's that we deal with on a more frequent basis. I personally have transported many C5's, it's an easy car to load, although if it's lowered and has bigger tires, it's a bit more of a challenge to load but, it's doable. I have loaded my own C5 and transported it unscathed.

Sure thing Kenny....Rest assured that a lot of the makes of cars I deal with are obviously more expensive but, that doesn't mean I take any shortcuts in handling the rest of the inventory I haul. Whether it's a Nissan Versa to a McLaren, it's someone's pride and joy. Just happens that being a Corvette owner, I take extra pride in delivering their Corvettes, because I know how they feel about their cars. Corvette people can be ****, and I don't blame them for that, I'm the same mindset but, it's a rewarding experience to deliver their cars. I treat it, like it is my own.

I also recommend using Plycar Auto Transport. Very professional and very careful. Used them twice and would use them again.

I chose Intercity recently to deliver my new baby. It looks like their trailers are the same as what the other carrier mentioned here offers. What other posts don’t mention are some of the reasons I chose Intercity and also what you asked as to what to consider. Enclosed trailer, car covered/enclosed during transit, carrier provides driver contact and connectivity during transport, airride trailer so the trailer takes the road hits...not your car. Good luck with your shipment!

Places like Wal-Mart Super Centers
Lowe's/ Home Depot
Hobby Lobby (Closed on Sunday's)
just to name a few, I know off hand that are generally friendly to get in and out of.
Just because an empty parking lot is open, doesn't necessarily mean a semi can get into it. When I mean open, I mean open like just light fixtures, and not any parking blocks or other obstacles. The entrance and exit need to be at minimum 3 cars width for a tractor trailer to make turns without hassle, any less than that, and your fighting for inches to make a safe turn without curbing/running over something.

I used Intercity twice to get my C5's from Indiana to SoCal a few years ago and they did an excellent job. Kept me informed and showed up and arrived when they said they would. The drivers took excellent care of my cars.

X2 on using company owned equipment. I went with a broker who is a forum sponsor vendor back in '14. Contracted carrier couldn't find my house. Had to find him and lead him in. Arrived 4 hours late and had to load in the dark. Driver had limited proficiency with the English language and I suspect less with driving as 30 minutes after leaving he drove into a ditch and caused serious damage to '70 Mustang GT500KR and an Audi R8. Fortunately my car was unscathed. He arrived 1 day late and refused to unload until I paid in full. I refused to turn over a dime until I could inspect my car, especially in light of his previous incident. He said he would just keep the car and leave if I didn't pay. I said fine and told him as soon as he left I would report the car stolen and let him deal with the police until we got things worked out. After he called the broker several times he agreed to unload and let me inspect it. It was ok, I paid, we exchanged a few compliments and he left. Bottom line is I will never go the broker route ever again and highly recommend the OP doesn't either.
