Does anyone have a garage lift (small one) and use it with their vette?
ok so i'm not "old" but i'm getting to the age (37) where it's sucking to jack my cars/jeeps up and put jack stands under them and fight with all that...
i was contemplating doing a small lift in my garage. My home garage is only 8' ceilings. So it would work on the vette but not on the jeeps i like to work on. I also have a warehouse at work (family company) where i could install a big boy lift. But it's not heated/climate controlled and in the winter time it's COLD. And you can't just run a torpedo heater since it's pretty huge.
so i was considering one of these.

my thought process was that i could use it at home with the vette. But if i wanted to i could toss it in the truck and use it at work in the warehouse with the jeeps or at a buddy's house working on his stuff..
i just wanted to get some input on if this type of thing works with our cars. Because the other option is nicer. But a little more involved. And that would be this:

they call it "portable" but it's BARELY portable. But, i could install it on the wider side of the garage. and then when i'm done working on the car i could take it out and toss it in the corner (my wife parks her durango on that side).
Any thoughts guys?

That's pretty awesome lol.
my dilema is at home, it's sooooooo much more convenient to work on everything (currently motor swapping a jeep) but space is at a premium. BUT, the garage is heated, it's well lit. and allllllll my tools are there.
However, i do have the warehouse (this is one side)
Which has TONS of space (the other side isn't nearly as well lit though) but is FREEEEEZING like 6 months out of the year (i will probably do most of the big projects in the winter too). If i put one in here i'll do a big boy lift.
my goal is just to be able to take weight off the suspension (so i can change out various components) and open in the center for access to exhaust/trans/etc...

wow only 37 and complaining already! Wait till you get my age in 31 more years!
always wished I had a hoist/lift in my home garage, there's nothing I haven't done to my vette at home on jack stands from engines to trans to diffs etc, you name it, ...but every time I do I say it's the last but there always seems to be a next time!
the list goes on!

that's when i did the clutch and exhaust in the mustang
and i'm doing a 4.2 to 4.0 swap in an old scrambler right now
i'm just thinking that it would make life a lot easier... or at least be a nice convenience. i just didn't know if these open scissors would work ok with the lift points on the C5.

I agree that a lift would be easier. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Little garage space, but tired of homemade ramps, jacks and stands.
If you want that MaxJax, you better hurry. The link says the sale lasts until FEB 31st. Or maybe don't hurry, since it may be awhile before we see a Feb 31st...

I had a Kwik Lift and while it was great for oil/fluid changes it wasn't perfect. Due to it's size you always park on top of it.
New house, new garage now considering a Quick Jack as well.

I definitely see a Quickjack in my near future
Getting too old (67) for the juggling act involved for a simple oil change. Should be nice for detailing too.

my new company car isn't going to fit in the left side of the garage anymore (getting a truck instead of the st). So i fiugred i'd just slide it to that side if i needed it out of the way. i think i'm going to move all the shelving to that side anyway

I had the ceiling height so I went with the 4 post. Cost me under $2 grand with the extra trays, casters to roll it and aluminum diamond plate ramps. Not very portable though but it allows me to store 2 cars on that side.

Nope, I looked it up online to price it out and it is considered portable. The control box that raises/lowers seems to attach to it and acts like a pallet jack to move it. However it is bulky and does not fold up so space is still an issue.
