Since none of my real friends seem to care...
While my interior is apart waiting for my vettenuts double din bezel I decided to tackle the dim HVAC situation and replace a couple burned out bulbs. Decided since the LED place had stupid high shipping costs anyways, I should do all the switches while I'm at it.
Well the LEDs came in today, and since the switches are a lot easier than the HVAC due to not having to solder, I figured I would toss them in. Anyone who knows LED's knows that they only allow current to flow in one direction. For those not familiar: a regular bulb can be installed in either direction and it will work, an LED cannot.
Basically, you have a 50/50 shot of getting it right on the first try unless you test beforehand. I will definitely check beforehand on the HVAC bulbs, but for these I just installed and figured I would have to switch half of them, no big deal.
Anyways, I somehow went 7 for 7, which seemed impossible to me. So impossible, that my curiosity got the best of me and I literally took one out and reversed it to make sure I wasn't crazy, and sure enough it didn't work reversed.
Long story short, I'm currently charging $20 each to give out lottery numbers

Dim display fix
You can get some small clamps from Harbor Freight for a buck or so, then use them to hold the resistors down while you work on each side.

With that kind of luck, hopefully you picked up a lottery ticket.

i actually already fixed the dim display 3 weeks ago when I got too excited and took apart my dash even though I knew my bezel wouldn't be in for a long time. Those would have been very nice...

Where did you get the LEDs? Happen to have part numbers?

I got everything from oznium back in the day (2008) they still have kits I think. The thread by Tstar has the resistor values needed if you are doing red or blue. I forget what they are off the top of my head.

I'm glad my diagram is still useful! I actually used myself again when I re-did mine. Some of my resistors crossed back over and were touching positive/negative at the same time and I blew out a lot of my LEDs. I'm a LOT better at this now and everything looks right this time. Good luck!

I like the blue, but it might look a little too aftermarket for my taste.
