couple of small things this week. It's down at green apple getting a legit alignment now that it's dropped. My buddy is trying to find his corner scales at work so i can corner balance it (if not i'll end up buying a set... because reasons), i have some gauge bezels going in. Debating on leaving them silver or painting them the body color. or something else.

Also, i put the PCM in the other day and didn't realize the vacuum line for the climate control runs in that loom. i had that thing pulled and twisted and ya... so it looks like i'm running a vacuum line lol. oh well. rookie mistake. last night taking it to the alignment shop i was like "huh... air is coming out of ALL my vents... wtf".

and onward we go.

I still love this quickjack. I honestly wouldn't be into working on this without it. had a bit of a distraction this weekend...

my mom surprised the girls with a puppy lol. But i was able to sneak down to the garage and knock out some pain in the butt little stuff. The biggest thing was the other day when i drove it in the rain i noticed i had air coming from all the vents. I'm not sure if i broke the line when i removed the PCM (all the vacume lines were intertwined with the harness on the PCM bracket. so either someone else before me paid zero attention or they come that way. either way, i'm sure i ended up yanking on them a bit) or if it was like that when i got it. But i pulled the tree off the canister and luckily the broken line was fairly obvious. i ran a vacume line from that around and to the box inside and that allowed my vents to work properly.

so how do you run a vacume line into the inside of the car when the stock one is run through the harness? That's what took the longest to figure out. In the end I drilled a small hole through the fiberglass next to the large rubber grommet that seals the main harness. Ran that to the tree from the box and viola! i can control my vents again.

other than that:
Diff changed with Amsoil sever duty 75-90 and GM friction modifier.
Trans changed with Amsoil Tq whatever it's called lol.
anti venom mod with 1 washer (might add the 2nd)
skip shift eliminator installed (i kept forgetting to do this)
Adjusted the coilovers from 0/0 to 3/6 (huge difference)

I also painted my bezel rings blue but they hazed REALLY bad. i'm not sure if the paint is interacting with whatever was originally there or what. So i'm going to prime them and start from that... these may end up being tossed though. we'll see.

Next up - headlight housings (still deciding which)
changing rear sway to a softer setting (it's on the firmest now and it's a bit too much with the stiff coilovers, it's a little tail happy)

couple of stuff for the near future.

AA supercharger kit - this fall/winter that's happening
Carbon fiber hood - once i figure out which one i want
Carbon fiber headlight covers - just not sure that i can swallow 400 bucks for headlight covers...
Roll bar - still researching.

The carbon would eliminate all my rock chips. the blower takes care of the horsepower. Roll bar just adds an element of seriousness to the whole thing. I put one in my mustang too. i love the way it looks and what it adds. Plus the safety benefit.

So I drove it to work the other day and while I'm really happy with how its coming along. It needs a few touches to the outside

So the back is kinda naked so I ordered a painted zr1 spoiler

and now I'm thinking front splitter I'm lowered and some guys with the zr1 front lip say they have cooling issues so I'm torn between the painted zr1 and this one

Which is very inexpensive but more importantly. Pretty low profile and doesnt look like it will interfere with cooling.

For what it’s worth, I bought that exact front splitter for my 04 for the same reasons you mentioned, but I still had cooling issues. Just a heads up in case it might save you a purchase.

I tried running it in conjunction with the center air dam only, tried with all three air dam pieces, tried spacing the middle of thhe splitter out from the bottom of the fascia to create an air passage but my temps would still get to around 200-210 and never drop, even cruising on the highway. As soon as I took it off, instantly back to the 180-190 range. I know some guys say they get away with it but in my experience the C5 seems to be a pretty picky bottom breather.

Its a a pretty good looking piece for the price, here’s a pic of mine installed when I had it on since ebay’s photos aren’t the greatest

man it does look good on there too. I figured it's an 80 dollar gamble. I appreciate the heads up. I"ll be sure to try it and see how it is before i go through painting it. That way it's only an 80 dollar gamble and not a much more expensive one.

where do you have your fans set to come on?

Thanks man!

I agree with kevbot. The splitter looks good. I did not have any cooling issues with the center air dam installed. However it's not very durable. I bought mine to test ground clearance an chiped the lip in my driveway. I knocked a big chunk out on a cone at an autox...... Just don't smoke any cones or curb it and it should hold up for a while.

I believe fans come on around 180 with my tune. I have a stock thermostat as well.

It's worth noting that the different trials I mentioned above were all done prior to the tune and having the fan temps lowered, although I'm not sure how much of a difference the lower fan temps would make. I think I read that the fans shut off around 30-35mph anyway, so this wouldn't have an impact on the temps still being high on the hwy. I know it's technically still within factory spec (high speed fans from the factory don't come on until 236* I believe), but it's still out of my comfort zone. The car normally runs between 180-190* so that's where I'd like it to remain.

There has got to be a way to combine it with one of these...

on the subject of cooling. started looking at a couple of aluminum radiators today... just kind of something to consider... In jeeps with V8 swaps i always went to all aluminum rads and it really helped. I wonder if it'll help in this car.

with the M6 are there other coolers in the rad as well?

Heads, Cam, FAST 90,& headers in an o2 ZO6. Stock Rad, Stock fans & 180 Deg stat. Tuned to better fan on temp limits.

Never had an issue with any over heating. Even in 100 Deg weather traffic jams.. Temps get to 225 in the excessive heat but engine never over heated
Unless you go forced induction, stock stuff should work fine.

blah, 1 step forward 2 steps back.

guy was working on his landscaping on his little hill side next to the road. a landscaping rock had rolled out into the road on a blind bend. just my luck i nailed it right on the edge of the wheel/tire which cut the tire. The guy was like "oh no that happened way up the road i heard you come by whistling"

ya bs. Oh well. new tire on the way. one tiny m ark on the wheel but it's not on the face so it shouldn't really be noticeable.

You will see that damaged spot for the rest of the time that you own the car..

Brother ,, If it were me,,,,,,,,,,, he would have to have fixed it also.

Is it a rear tire or a front tire???? If its a rear tire, depending on the mileage and or wear on the tire, you should replace BOTH tires. If one tire is significantly larger or smaller than the other (new vs old) it will cause limited slip clutch excessive wear/damage.

Just my 2 cents

Bill

it's a front with like 300 miles on it so I'm good

I'm going to track the car itll hit cones. Its not flawless and rare ya know it's got plenty of rock chips and what not

and theres no recourse for the damage no way to prove fault and its not worth my time to worry about it for a couple hundred bucks

it's a bummer. But far from the end of the world just kind of a bump in the road
