Will Insurance Pay For Windshileld/Convertible Top
Hello Fellow Corvette Owners,
I was de-winterizing my 2001 corvette this weekend (removing the 2 covers)
when I noticed the rear windshield fell out of it's seal. I believe it was
due to the heavy snow that fell on it this winter. The glass is not
broken. I found an upholstery shop that quoted me $1500. I have
full coverage insurance that includes windshield replacement.
I realize the windshield is connected to the fabric, so I must replace
the entire top. I was wondering if GEICO would pay for this. I know
they will probably say it's an 01 and the fabric is old...etc...
I submitted a claim...the worse they can say is "No".
Appreciate any feedback.

If I had to guess, it might be a hard sell to the ins co, but doesn’t hurt to ask.
I have a Word file on reattaching the back glass as a DIY project and if you want a copy, just PM me your e-mail address.

I would think this would be covered by comp but insurance companies are pros at finding loopholes to deny claims...

You can buy a whole new (used ) top for less than $500.
Replacement isn't that involved. $1500 sounds excessive.

I replaced my top last month. The first shop I called wanted $1,600 to replace the top, the second shop (fellow has been in business installing tops for +30 years, quoted me $1,225). I ended up needing my passenger side window track repaired, so I paid $1,300 for the new top and repair. However, I live in the Chicago suburbs, so there is the benefit of several places and competition.

Thanks for your responses....Absolutely quick and awesome!
I live down here in south jersey and not alot of auto upholstery shops....thats why it's
so dang expensive. I wouldn't mind buying the top and trying to put it on. If anyone is
close to south jersey and "knows what they're doing" I wouldn't mind paying them a fair
price and of course I would help as much as possible. I will keep you updated about the
insurance co. also ! Thank-You!!!

It's so easy to reglue it. I did mine without buying suction cups, just epoxy and a broom stick to prop it up with bricks on the top. Worked for years. You mean back glass rather than windshield.

As far as making a claim, it's all dependent on your wording of what happened. Is it I hit a deer or is it a deer hit me (I know kind of dumb, but just an example). Had this discussion with my insurance agent.
I believe your comp. ins. will pay if you explained the snow load part.

Update!
Hello ....
Just wanted to update on my insurance experience.
As it turned out....I'm covered through my comprehensive insurance.
They are paying for a brand new convertible top. I first put the claim
in as rear window replacement, however, they wouldn't cover it
So I started a new claim for "convertible top damage, via snow"
The adjustor came out the next day....wrote a check, minus my
deductible, AND payed to have it towed to the auto upholstery shop.
Whole experience was wonderful. Just an FYI.....I have Geico!
Thanks a million for your responses....very much appreciate!

Be sure to let us know what happens when the policy renews. Interested to see if they ding you for a claim.... I have eaten a couple things I probably could have claimed because I was afraid they would bump the rates more than the claim was worth, or even cancel.
