By now, most of you have seen Leroy, a salvage-title C5 that YouTuber Cleetus McFarland has turned into a twin-turbocharged 8-second monster. Well, long story short, the door sill plates say
“Built Exclusively For - LEROY N. COKER
Delivered on July 19, 2001
Last 01 Delivery”

I look up the name on the forum and it turns out that Leroy Coker was a forum member with the username zoneblock. Sure enough, his C5 was the final NCM delivery of 2001. He hasn’t been on the forum in 14 years, so there’s no telling how the Corvette was wrecked. I just thought it’s cool to see the origins of such a famous car, and the fact that the car is linked to the forum makes it a little cooler.

My buddy's shop built the exo-skeleton for Leroy. It's a helluva build.

I dont think Cleetus is old enough to have been on the forum 14 years ago.

Nobody said that Garrett bought the car originally...

He bought it salvaged.. Whether he bought it from Leroy, the original owner, or not is the question.

It now makes sense where the name for the car came from. Had seen the car before, but never really read much about it's history.

I really lost interest when the car went exo and the skeleton was made all boxy looking. It’s still sooooorta looked corvettish with the bare frame.

I can’t say it wasn’t a good PR move. Just think
its ugly and has to have horrid aero.

Now if he'd only get rid of that dang C6 flag!!

A forum member on here actually made and sent him a custom Cleetus C5 emblem, he gave him a shout out in one of his videos a month or so ago. To my knowledge, he has yet to install it though.

Said link, starts at proper time:

Any chance some members here could possibly post comments on the video to get him to install it?!

1) The ExoSkeleton was imperative for safety.
2) Here's how to do it wrong (very wrong). RIP.

A regular roll cage would’ve been a tight for for Garrett(Cleetus) as he a very, very tall guy. An exoskeleton suits his needs and adds character to the build. Safety is a huge priority to him, believe it or not. Pro Fab is going to modify the cage and add some more safety equipment to Leroy soon, as Garrett said at LS Fest West. He ran an 8.38 @ 169 on old tires this past weekend, and he’s shooting for 7’s. He has a switch labeled “Bald Eagles” in the car, and I believe that it’s going to have something to do with a nitrous system. The engine will probably be sent out to TSP soon for a refurbishment and it needs new tires. Leroy The Savage could be running 1200hp on nitrous by mid-June.

Whether you like the build or not, "Leroy the Savage" is solid proof that the C5 platform is an awesome, relevant and capable platform.
Also love the sound of Bald Eagles & Freedom.

Don't know why, but it bugs me he has C6 flags on Leroy! I still hope maybe some members can post comments to remind him to (maybe) install the C5 flags!

I'm legitimately surprised the C5 section of this forum hasn't collectively **** a giant golden chicken over this car.

Leroy is the perfect track day car and an excellent example of what some of these C5 should be turned into.

I don't think it is, remember that drift kid that flipped the switch while they were doing donuts and it took off? I've never seen a bottle on it.

I always wondered if he got most of the parts and labor donated, or he dumped all that $ in a POS.

Definitely sponsorships for his Youtube channel, though im sure just the Ad revenue from views off of his videos are pulling in way more than enough money to pay for the build and then some. Plus the work he does with 1320.
I want to be Cleetus when I grow up
