How is everyone passing up texas speed and performance? with a catted mid pipe and 02 extensions it was a grand...
Fit was perfect. they installed through the top without any problems. i had zero issues during install.

My TSP headers didn't go as smooth as yours, but it seems most have positive results. And after some work mine did go in and are still great years later...

Pretty sure I suggested TSP, but I think he has 2 posts on the same subject (one reason I despise double posting and wish it was banned here).

For mine i pulled the alternator, pulled the dipstick and ignition coil bracket, the battery cover, and i think that was it. i did mine by myself too. did both from the top.
oh i also had my motor mounts out so i could replace them while i was there. so i was able to lift/drop the motor to help slide them in.

Sorry for the double posting in the Tech section I asked it be removed. Ok, the header package they initially offered at a discount is in fact out of stock. So they offered the package with the high flow cats, which for a daily driver I’m told is better. Originally the sale price is $999.00 and they are offering it to me for $850.00. To finally put this thing to bed I’m gonna roll the dice and order it. Thanks everybody for all your opinions, suggestions and input. This forum really is fantastic! Thanks everyone!!
I will do an install thread and video once all is completed. 🙌🏻😀

originally they took 250 off the kit with no cats but they were out of stock. So they offered the kit with the cats and discounted me from the pre-sale price if 1,100 to $850. I was very lucky they honored it and hopefully it goes in without a hitch.

ah missed that. Just curious, what did you have to do to get yours in?

Mine arrived with a severely warped flange, unusable. I had it milled flat at my day job.
I had read that the DS was best approached from the bottom, car being 27" or so off the ground. I did so and lowered it back down a ways for the PS.
The DS was tough, had to remove one bolt, a bit of fussing, in. Propped it up with a jerry can (did the installation alone), went up top and got some bolts in place. I think that was it.
The PS dropped in like nothing.
Once in one is nice and level, the other hangs a bit lower pointing a bit upward. Not bad, never bottomed out, but could (should) be better IMO.

The set I chose has 3inch collectors. But about the 1/7/8 header tubes, would that only impact the exhaust note? From what I’ve read that displacement is best for high HP engines.

To make the best of the exhaust in terms getting a proper tune without any down time. I got a chance to buy a 03 Z06 BCM to have it sent out to get flashed/tuned for the exhaust. Is the 03 Z06 BCM compatable for the 04 base?

I have Kooks long tube headers with their hi flow green cats and have no leaks and no clearance or fitment issues. Kooks are the easiest long tube headers to install and they install from underneath. No jacking up the motor or removing the starter or steering shaft. No cutting or trimming anything or dimpling the tubes. Just move the ground wire out of the way and they slide right up. This is true of the latest version of Kooks headers manufactured starting sometime in 2013. No ground clearance issues either.
I went with their hi flow green cats so that the car wouldn't throw any codes at start up. They advertise that this is 95% not 100% guaranteed. My '99 did not throw any codes after I started it up or since.
I ordered my Kooks headers ceramic coated. It is necessary IMO and will keep the under hood temps down. The extra heat from the SS long tube headers will prematurely destroy electronic, rubber and plastic components and adversely affect performance. Absolutely worth the extra 150 bucks it cost.
The pictures speak for themselves.

Trust me, I wanted to buy the kooks, but like the corvette tax implies, you wanna play you gotta pay. Lol the green catted pipe is more than the headers! $1640 headers are $1,178. Guess I bought the wrong daily driver to worry about a budget lol. Sorry if my ignorance is becoming irritating but with all your guys help and my desire to build something respectable I’m confident that the 17 years I’ve put off my own interests will be well worth it!

sound is pretty much the same between 1 3/4 and 1 7/8, I have had both on my car and didn't notice a difference in sound

The larger tube headers are better for FI or bigger cubes, but many run them on LS1 motors with no ill effect.
I remember having 1 5/8" headers back in the day...

Awhile back one of the forum venders tested all three back to back, American racing and LG super pros where the top performers. I have no dog in this fight. Ron B.

You do realize those aren't longtubes right? Unless I'm missing something they appear to be mid length headers.
