Default Achilles tires & federal tires?

I have a set of bf's a/s on my C5 and was looking for potentially new/spare set of tires. Definitely tired of paying $300 for 1 tire, I found these brands Achilles and federal but never heard of them.

Anyone have experience with these tire brands on your Vette?

Not interested in other brands as I know what most people will suggest and I've owned other brands in the past. I'm focusing on Achilles and federal for feedback.

I would try and find out who makes them, they are probably a discount brand of a larger tire manufacturer. If they are too cheap I'd be suspect of their durability. You don't need a road hazard ruining your day.

I had Federal in my old Corvette. I think they was really good tires for that money. I would buy again if they start to make 19" tires.

Federal Tires are popular in the HPDE group because they make a value priced but good handling track tire along with their regular tires. Never heard of Achilles

i went super cheap on my wrx tires this last time around. I bought a set of "Barum" model tires. Hands down the 2nd best tire i have owned on this car. My vette is basically a saturday grocery getter to Costco. I'll be throwing some cheap rubber on it. I think it was Federal that I was planning on getting.

On my second set of Federal's. They are good for the money, I would say comparable to Kumho or Hankook. Switching to Nitto only because I have bigger CCW's going on as soon as they get back from the powder coater or I would probably get the 595's again.

Quality???

I understand you are sick of paying $300 on a tire but....those four little tire contacts with the road is what is keeping you alive. Cheaper tires usually made cheaper, hence, that's why they are cheaper. Personally I want the best tire I can get because if I need to swerve or brake hard to avoid a collision, I want the best rubber on the road. I also like to buy American when possible

So, Japanese or German? Chinese.

Unless you're buyin Hoosier R7 slicks... most tires are not made in the USA.

That being said, Nitto tires, Falken, Toyo all have tires that hover around the $250-300/tire category. Anything much cheaper than that is a bit risky. Great for drifting. Not so great for day to day dependability.

I've ran Achilles tires as well as many of my friends more times than I can count. Havent had them on the Vette but multiple AMG Mercedes cars i've previously owned, some even stretched. With ZERO issues, ever.
Probably wont hook up the best but as an extra set or just an around town cruising tire they will be just fine

Goodyear, Michelin, Cooper, etc. are mostly made in the USA

Ok, I've seen some unusual names for products and Achilles is not the weirdest, but Achilles Tires?!! Is that like going to Delilah or Jezebel for marriage counseling?
