Trying to see if taking on this project is worth it. Those of you who have gotten it fixed from a mechanic how much did it end up costing you? Anything under $300 and I don't think I'm going to end up doing it. Thanks.

It will be well north of $300

DIY is not that bad....I did mine start to finish in under 4 hrs working time taking breaks...

take your time its easy to break tabs on some stuff

its easier to get the dash pad out if you lower tilt the steering wheel down and take the targa top (if equipped)

after you install new actuators make sure they are functioning before you reinstall the dash pad...I know a shop that didn't check and the owner made the tech redo it on his own time

Do you have a link to a how-to or anything? I couldn't find why here on the forums or YouTube.

Did you try to do the calibration method? If not, try this.

When I did mine on another GM car, the bolt that held the actuator was 8.5mm. I had to buy a 8.5mm socket. Not sure if that is the case with the vette.

They are all over the place at the junkyards or at rockauto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...actuator,10721

Seen them done countless times. Glad I wasn't working on it.

Dash looks like a grenade was placed inside. Literally the entire dash is gutted.

Project for sure. Pack a lunch.

I heard you can access the driver side actuator without removing the dash pad, is this true? If so, I shouldn't have to remove my dash pad as it's my driver's side that's bad.

Question, I apologize for getting on this thread. doorman has actuators, when replacing, do you still have to index the gears? It’s hot in here, thank you.

Get them done, mine started like that. One day I cleared out my codes and both went bad. Cold at firewall hot inside the car.

If it's your first time, plan on a full day. 4 hours to take the dash apart and 3 hours to put it back together. Plus 30 seconds or so to actually change out the actuators. It is not rocket science but it is tedious. Small quantities of beer help. Small quantities.

If you only need to change the driver's side, yes you can do it from below without taking the dash apart. Sucker. The other one is ready to go.

then you have smaller hands than me....NFW I could get my hands in there....I tried and screwed around with it longer than just taking the dash out......besides if you are gonna do one you know the other side is going to go so you might as well do both

I'm a decently large guy with long (but not especially meaty) hands. I was able to get the driver's side without removing the dash. It was difficult and a bit awkward, but possible once I moved a couple things. That being said, the passenger side needs done too, and I should have just pulled the dash and done both. haha
