C5 top speed
When C5 was introduced in 1997, GM claimed the stock car had a top speed of 175 MPH.
Has anybody here reached the top speed or his or her C5?
Of course, on a road that has no speed limit. We would never exceed it
I believe Montana has no speed limit at certain places.

Never had my car up to that speed and don’t see it happening either, especially on a public road. From what I understand, Montana does not have unlimited speed limits anymore. Current max speed limit is 75 mph on some roads and that will increase to 80 in October.

I've had mine up to mid 180s and pretty sure it would do over 200 if I had the room, not stock though... I might be wrong but I thought they were speed regulated from the factory and you can remove the speed limiter in the tune

I lived in Berlin back in 2003 and had a 2003 Z06 and would run it wide open on the autobahn (where allowed), I had it up to 165mph and backed off as I could feel the car lifting (started a close to 160). It was fun driving on the autobahn as the Germans thought that my vette was what they had there (coup and convertible) and soon found out it wasn't. My car was stock, never modified.

OTT, but years ago I read the late Duncan Hamilton's book including descriptions of competing at Le Mans in the Jaguar "D" type. In the wet, at full speed he reported wheel spin as the rear end had lightened dramatically. As the D would hit 180, he was definitely a ballsy guy.

interesting... there is a speed limiter table in the tune though but I have no idea what a stock car is set at

No desire for that stuff, you have 0 control at that speed; if something happens youre along for the ride.
0-120ish sure. When youre approaching 160, you get a good side gust, a coyote runs out in front of you reality sinks in quick.

I've had my 98 (905HP) up to 165 mph very quickly. I've had my 02 (damn near stock) up to 167 mph and like Z06BERLIN said, the front end started lifting and I felt very uneasy.
As far as a speed limiter, it might be true for an automatic but I'm pretty sure the manuals don't have one. The top speed is in 5th gear and is rev limited. In 6th gear, drag takes over horsepower. That's why I still wonder today what the top speed would have been in my 98 as I believe she had enough horsepower to over come the drag in 6th gear.

I had mine up to 179 but the shifter hung up between second and third.
