Those are clearly 3D printed and could be made pretty easily.

It stays in the console until I need it. When I do need it, it slips over the OEM cup holder door in seconds. This allows even 32oz drinks to stay in place during spirited driving. And, since it removes in seconds, your Vette stays "tacked-on-Auto-Zone-cup-holder"-free.

That's bad azz! Just ordered me one up. This forum always costing me money, LOL!

Hook us up with a good forum price when you get them done. $20 is steep.

Nah, if someone wants to take the time to design something similar from scratch, and share the STL, that's one thing. I'm not interested in competing and undercutting the guy on his own design. The reason why it's $20 is it would take an hour to produce plus a dollar or two in materials. The only way to cut the price in a big way would be to injection mold the thing in quantity. Then, they would be a buck a shot.

Well, you commented that they were easy to make, so I thought you were stepping up. I assumed you could offer forum members your own unique design. C5 owners have been looking for a clean and simple cup holder solution since 1997. This one seems to be the only design of its kind. Mine works extremely well.

You assumed wrong. I simply said they were 3D printed, and it's a pretty easy design. Meaning, its a clean and functional design, without the need for ramps or supports, and would tend to create quality output with a high percentage of success.

I wasn't advocating stealing someones work, any more than I would advocate someone stealing your businesses intellectual property - patent or no patent. That ain't cool.

The price they are charging for a 3D printed piece like this one-up as actually pretty reasonable. However, for volume, 3D printing is god awful inefficient. Some of the other items they have on their site is open source, door trim cover, etc, and the STL is freely available, fwiw.

It is highly unlikely that you will come across a drink that is SO tall and SO heavy that any vehicle movement short of a frontal collision will rip out your cup holder door. Just sayin'.

Or even better, be altruistic/a contributor to the Corvette community and post the 3D print plans on www.thingiverse.com

Seriously, all the weight is supported by the console, and the add-on cup holder just keeps it upright. There really isn't much force exerted on it, even under spirited driving. I rarely have 32oz bevs in my car, but they still stay planted. Your smaller bevs, soda cans, etc. are even more secure! This little thing works great!
