Default Is the Z06 okay to live with?

Hello I am new here (2nd post I think).

I sat in a white convertible C5 back around the turn of the century at a dealership I was working next door to. It had the tan leather and I just remember it being nice. I had my first Chevrolet at the time, a 1997 Z28. I currently have a LQ4 Chevrolet pickup and did some driving in a 2006 Cobalt some time back.

So I see this Z06 that looks so great and I like to drive my vehicles often and take lengthy day trips from time to time for leisure. I just think sometimes that the track capable C5 Z06 is so oriented for road racing that it might be punishment driving slow sometimes. It would not be a daily driver- nor a garage/trailer queen.

Basically I kind of wonder is it like a liter sportbike, where if you arent sprinting out of corners, stunting, or cruising over 100+mph everywhere you go it would be tiresome to basically cruise around. But like on a standard motorcycle, you can still have plenty acceleration and cornering performance, look great and is economical to operate- and even have a blast on the closed circuit, but obviously not cut any track records!!! But it would be nice to set the Goodyear F1s on Barber Motorsports Park from time to time.

Also, is the LS1 'regular' Corvette more street-friendly?

I daily drive mine. I've put 61k miles on mine in the 4 years I've had it. To me, it's quite comfortable, not harsh at all. It's exactly what I wanted to drive around in every day.

Wife and I have taken it to the beach with no complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to say it's a very good road trip car.

Drive a Gen 2 Viper and you will discover what a Cadillac the C5Z really is.

The only complaint I would have is the same I would have with any manual car. If you live in a big city, with hours of stop and go traffic, the manual gets a little tiring. Luckily my commute doesn't have a lot of stop and go. Stop and go sucks no matter what, but with a stick it's even worse.

The Z06 is not an unbound race car. It is quicker, a little stiffer, handles better and is more fun to drive at times. The only issue I had with mine was a bad knee and low speed stop and go driving. I just got tired of shifting and lugging around between gears as I got older. It appears you are a lot younger than I am and if you are looking for a 6 speed then you will love the "Z" in my opinion. I miss everything about my Z06 but love everything about my automatic convertible (it even has some of the same lines/look with the top up)..... should have kept the Z06 for spirited driving and used the convertible for pleasure driving I guess.

Our minivan is daily friendly...
I drive my 04Z every day to work. Is it a bit rough compared to a base C5? Yep. Do I enjoy driving it every day? Yep. Every once in a while we get the kids sat and go out together also. Wife likes it (but rarely drives it, last time was maybe a year ago, or 2?).
Take one for a spin, decide for yourself.

The C5 Z06 is civilized when you want it to be and a beast when you want to drive more aggressively. It would be a good car for both daily commuting as well as the occasional road trip.

I recently returned home from Florida (~1250 miles each way) and drove the homebound leg in one day. I would drive back again in a heartbeat.

If the Z06 is comfortable when you take it for a test drive, it will likely be comfortable for longer drives. Take the time to get the seat adjusted to where you like it. If you plan to have a passenger on a frequent basis, take them along. The passenger seat is manual and doesn't adjust like the driver's seat does.

If you get a Z06 or other C5 Vette, don't put the OEM F1 Supercars on it. There are much better tires available.

C5's are very comfortable drivers, and I wouldn't mind a C5Z as a daily one bit. Sounds like an awesome idea, actually.

I have a 2002 C5Z. It has a very nice, comfortable ride and is not punishing in the least bit. Easy to drive around town or on the highway. And is a beast when you drop the hammer.

I have had a Z06 for a couple years now and drive it fairly regularly on the weekends, esp. in the summer months. It is a great car all around to drive, and is as easy to drive and in some cases easier with all the xtra power to drive around town, in traffic, on the freeway, or esp on some twisty roads. Here is what most are leaving out though in comparison to most regular cars out there today. The ride is harsh, a compromise for the extremely good handling and cornering abilities it has. I am ok with that, It's worth the compromise. The interior noise when I first bought mine really surprised me. I mean it is LOUD as GM used very little insulation or sound deadening material. That was the one thing I did not like so I removed the entire interior and applied about 70 lbs of sound deadening material everywhere on the interior. I was ok with the added weight if it helped to quiet the car down. My fiance and I could hardly carry on a conversation at 80 mph on the interstate on concrete pavement (much louder than asphalt) . The sound deadening was worth its weight in gold. It might be the best mod I did to the car as I feel like I get the best of both worlds. I have a supercharged Z06 that can haul the mail when I want it to, and is fairly civilized on a road trip if I need it be when the future bride and I go out of town.
