Buying a Z06 with a replaced engine, How can I tell if has a LS1 or LS6?
#22
It was rebuilt from Chevy with 82k it says on the receipts. It has 101k on it now. He’s asking 18k for it (It also comes with a monster stage clutch/flywheel kooks headers, catted x-pipe, and mid pipe) But I’m doing a straight swap of my 04 SRT 10 RC with 82k on it.....Possibly

Doesn't seem like a terrible trade -- but do be sure to go through the known issues list:

Be sure to pull any codes just know if there are subtle issues -- things the owner may not even be aware of.
Something to bear in mind is the age of the car. It looks great, and the motor seems legit, but the seats and window motors and weatherstrips and torque-tube couplers and a dozen more parts of the car have urethanes that degrade over time, regardless of use or mileage. If the seats rock back and forth a 1/4 inch when you accelerate or decelerate that means the drive cushions have eroded. Not expensive by any means, but a pain in the butt none the less.

It's also a little confusing that on the first page of the Mission Chevrolet invoice it shows the engine is going out for a rebuild, but on page 2 of the invoice it says that the customer called on 1/13/13 and requested a new engine be installed. That makes a difference into whether the engine has 101k miles or 19k miles.

Lots of H(istory) codes in there. You will need an LCM5 module to clean up that column lock issue. Very common and an easy (less than an hour) fix for about 50 bucks.
My first blush is that car has had a hard life. At 18k you are at the WAY upper end of that cars value and with 3-4 more you can get a well sorted, lower mileage car that has been "loved upon" by an owner. Now, since you are trading your truck your options are limited. So, I'd do the trade and be ready to put another 2-3k into the car to sort all the un-sorted.

You guys have been awesome so far! I’m meeting tomorrow so I will let you know if I traded or not. I just know that I’m handing over a flawless maintenance free truck, for a car that needs work. But I think long term the Z is the better option.

I think he's getting a bad deal unless the Z has deep issues. Inspect it, then trust your gut.

Well, I did the trade. It came with a monster clutch , Diablo tuner & Kooks headers & X pipes. Already has a K&N intake & Borla exhaust. I need to get all these codes situated but the car runs great. If anyone knows a good vett place to go in South NJ I would appreciate that.

Welcome to the Z06 world! I love the car but man, that SRT is great looking too! I had a 2012 1500 Hemi and it ran great. For the price, you can't beat the Dodge trucks.
