Default Question on air intakes?

02 LS1 stock coupe, what will be the best scenario of intake setups, i'm not looking for cheap way, looking at the best option setup.

1.Blackwing intake with the fog light covers open ZO6 screens more air going up to intake.
2.Callaway honker with fog light covers open ZO6 screens more cooling power for engine.
3.Vararam intake

I vote Vararam or Callaway for best performance gains. I wouldn't expect much from just swapping the intake to begin with though. I just finished installing the Callaway Honker myself, very well made and fits like an OEM piece. I was extremely pleased with the quality. As far as the Vararam quality, from what I have personally seen and heard, it can be pretty bad at times. In my opinion, the Callaway was worth the cost.

Covered many times... but here goes.
Blackwing/K&N/Airraid etc, all provide a larger surface area than stock.
Callaway uses cold air from in front of rad. IMO this can both get hot radiated air off the rad (mostly off stop), and reduce the needed air for the rad.
Vararam has the potential for hydrolock, so again IMO (and others have posted actual occurrences), this is only suitable if you are crazy careful about any deep waters. Not worth it.
None of these will provide any substantial HP increase, especially SOTP noticable.

I heard the stock air filter on the Vararam kinda stinks, can you get a better filter for it? It is $200 cheaper then Honker. This intake thing is rotting my brain, was going with Honker but worried with hot air, its frustrating.

I've always heard great things about Vararam. I have it on both my C5 and C6.

The Vararam is generally listed as the best for any performance gains, followed by the Callaway. Both are true cold air intakes. The Vararam has been noted to have fitment issues, but once installed works well.

I have have a Blackwing on my car and for ease of installation (plus price), it’s hard to beat. I can’t say it gives a noticeable performance increase, but it is better than stock IMO.

I understand that the intake isn't going to give me a lot more power, but it will give a few extra ponies & be more efficient, i am going to get LT headers & tune down the road, and i want a better intake to bring in more air. So thats good enough for me, and plus i avoid rain and water puddles at all cost, i don't daily drive my car, possibly 2 times a week and winter time she goes into hibernation

But if i open the fog light covers open wouldn't the blackwing be better? Or just go with Vararam, cheaper is a plus, but i just want the best performer.

Not wrong, just an opinion like yours.
You could hear, thus maybe feel... just my opinion.
Most tuners are also sellers.
That said, I do believe it is the best design for HP, but feel anyone considering it should know there is potential for hydrolock.
For me, maybe an extra 10HP is not worth a potential motor rebuild. I do DD my car regardless of weather for 3 seasons however.

I can tell you it feels great but I'm not 100% sure if it's in my head or not. I believe that I felt an increase in power, especially when you're cruising 70+ mph and punch the gas.

Almost anything is better than stock. What you have heard are all valid points.

I have a Vararam. Everything I've ready says they are the best. However....access to the air filter is not the easiest thing.

Not necessarily. That air will come in and go all over the place, with some mixing from radiator air before going to the intake. Not to mention you also now have increased lift and drag due to more air getting shoved under the hood, and C5s don't have all that much downforce in the first place in stock form. Opening the foglight grill for the Callaway is pointless because it doesn't draw air from that area.

Go Vararam if the cosmetic issues don't bother you.
