2003 ZO6 Convertible conversion

2003 ZO6 Convertible conversion
A friend of mine has a 2003 ZO6 that was converted to a convertible. The conversion was completed in Chattanooga Tennessee shortly after purchase when new. The conversion was completed with all brand new GM OEM parts. What are some thoughts and concerns about the value of a car like this? I would like to know the fair market value of this car and I am not concerned about the resale value. The car has just over 27,000 miles and is absolutely gorgeous and perfect in every way. Thank you in advance!

I would say a value in the $22-24K is reasonable.

Low 20's I'd think; 21-22?
Poor Z. Why not just soup up a vert?

Value is low twenties, about the same as a vert and less than a Z. I suspect the owner started with a wreck or salvage because using a proper car for a conversion like this makes no just ain't right.

i like the conversion think its looks nice but on the street every one thinks thats just a vert with zo6 badging
the car marked if funny it comes down to what some one will pay for it really, even tho the car looks pristine in reality its a hacked up z06 if i was in the market id say $17k tops, little more then average vert but less then zo6 prices

You're in kind of a "no-mans land" with this. Some may pay extra since it's a one-of-a-kind and the seller may get the $22-24k that others are suggesting. If no one see's the "value to the owner" that frodo84 suggests, then prospective buyers will see it as a cut up Z06 and the seller could end up as low as $16-18k.
I see you mentioned the conversion was completed with all new GM parts, but any idea whether the GM parts were just the convertible assembly (top, decklid, tonneau cover, struts, motor, etc), or did this also include original convertible bracing? Obviously the convertible bracing, if added, will also add weight to what is typically designed to be a lower weight car.
Interested in the outcome.

Personally, I'd check this car over with a fine tooth comb if it were something that I wanted (would not). I'd also ensure it was actually a Z06, not a badged converted vert.
The OP hasn't replied since day one, yet his avatar is the car in question (?).

I think a lot of people would be turned off by that kind of conversion (how does it affect ride and handling? how much weight added? how does the top work? where do you get it repaired?), so that may affect one's ability to receive maximum return for the car.
Basically, it might be "worth" 22-24k, but it's going to be hard to sell at any price.

Thanks for the clarification. I should have remembered the hydroformed steel tube took care of that. My bad.

If/when these cars start to become more collectible, it would seem that the value would in part be influenced by the cost to return it to it's original state--that's the case with the older ones now. Sort of sad, but to each his own.

2003 ZO6 Conversion
Thank you for the very useful replies. I have been homebound due to a mild case of pneumonia and two rounds of oral surgery. I have not been on the Forum for a week or more. For clarification, the car was never in any mishaps, is an original factory ZO6, and is a two owner car and is well documented. I owned a 2002 ZO6 once. I seem to remember that the C5 ZO6 frame has structural bracing that normal C5s don’t. Is that correct? I have offered $19,500 for the vert and the owner is considering the offer. Again thanks for the valuable input.

Pretty sure all frames are identical. What makes the Z stiffer, better for track use etc., is the fixed roof (the one that got chopped off, but I doubt you plan to autocross, and if did probably wouldn't notice).

In 2000 John Cafero (Skunk Werkes) made 2 Z06 convertibles. Since he was head of Corvette Design, I believe, he had intimate knowledge of all the necessary parts. One was Yellow and one was Black. The Yellow car sold at Barrett Jackson in Phoenix for $41K several years ago. The black one is still in hiding but was fitted with the prototype Corsa Titanium exhaust that was sold for only a few years.
