[Z06] Square setup
I've run square set ups on all my track cars from my Spec Miata to my V8 Miata (335rwhp) and my C5 Z06
I do about 40-50 track days per season.
I run in the instructor groups with PCA, CHIN, NASA, BMW, AUDI, HOD and a few others.
I could care less about looks or what others think about looks.
I'm out there to run at a reasonable pace and have fun.
If it's not fun I may as well be working.
Regarding the SQUARE set up.
I do it for simplicity and managing/maximizing my tires.
I've also got a street C5 convertible & I run stock Z06 10.5x18 wheels on both cars with 285x35x18 Bridgestone RE71R's on all corners.
But I can tell you my car handles very neutral, obviously that has something to do with my alignment too.
My tire temps across the tread are very even with in 10-20 degrees across the tread and tire pressures are also very even when coming off the track.
I've also got a Cayman S. I was hoping to run square there to. I've got the same size(285x35x18) Bridgestones on the rear of the Cayman but largest tire without modding the front is a 255x35x18
A lot of the Cayman racers use a 255 square set up, once I use up these 285's on the rear I'll probably go to a 255 square on the Cayman.
As I mentioned before, the SQUARE set up is all about simplifying my tire management.
I can't say I'd go with 315's but...my setup feels balanced both in terms of looks and ability. My car runs a slightly lower ride height and the only rub I get is at nearly full lock, the front tires touch the bumper inner plastic liner ever so barely...in other words, no concern whatsoever.
Being able to rotate tires, extend that lifespan, plus gain so much of a car...all positives.
are these the deep concave or semideep concave?
Rotating tires is overblown IMO, if you are maximizing the front, might as well maximize the rear as well, putting the configuration back to a staggered setup...this is just as common as a square setup.
