My father in law just purchased a 2002 Corvette convertible. In manual it shows a switch on console that adjusts ride, touring, sport or performance. My question is his car has no such switch. How does ride type cjange
Look in the glove box for the option sheet glued to the door. It will probably have the FE1.That will be the standard suspension. The other option will be the Z51 which is the performance upgrade..

It's the F45 option, and you're lucky not to have it. I've had this option in two of my C5's and I never noticed a difference when changing the suspension selection in either car. The shocks are very expensive to replace. I actually bought some used ones (10k miles) to put om my current 2002 to see if they will make a difference. Never in my life did I ever think I would purchase used shocks, but...…..we'll see what happens. I got them for a pretty good price, so I said what the heck. I'm sure not going to buy new ones. Those prices are crazy! If this doesn't work, I'll go the C5z route with the shocks and the gizmo that fools the computer.
I have the F45 on mine and like o2bnkc said you are lucky not to have it, as I can't tell the difference in the ride and VERY expensive to replace and inconvenient to remove and replace.
Your father-in-law is probably better off not having the option. The replacement shocks for the setup are very expensive, and a sizable amount of owners get the option either programmed out or simulated with resistors to run conventional shocks. I actually passed on a few cars that had the option simply because of the headaches the system can bring.
If he wants to eventually upgrade there are much better options available nowadays to upgrade the suspension package, especially if you have FE1. As the C6 is an evolution of the C5 design most of the C6 components swap over which really opens the door for suspension.
