Default fuel tank shield

I had the car on scissors jacks doing something or another (not underneath) in the driveway, which has a slant to it. Anyway, because I didn't think to chock the front tires (never again), it rolled back and one of the jacks dented what I think is the driver's side fuel tank shield. I'd like to remove it and pound out the dent as I don't know how much clearance there is between the shield and the tank. This happened earlier this year and I don't think the shield is rubbing on the tank but for peace of mind I'd like to fix it. Any idea if this is complicated? Thanks in advance.

no, just a few bolts and it will come right off... the tank will not drop out but maybe put boards or something underneath it to support the tank while you repair the shield

Now that you've had the wake-up call without any physical pain, be more careful in the future! Good rule of thumb: Always jack/support the car as if you'll be under it, even if you're not going to be.

After I thought about it I remember that I was using jack stands. Not chocking the front tires was my downfall!

I know....after having a 72 Monte Carlo fall on me when both jack and jackstands sank into the hot AZ asphalt, I double support and overkill everything.

I agree with just pulling the shield off and taking out the dent as best you can.

If you've never heard any vibration or buzzing then the shield is most likely not touching the tank. There are tools you could use to pull the tank shield out without having to remove it. Usually body shop tools for pulling dents.
