Default 2001 C5 Corvette Conv. ** BEST TIRES **

I have a 2001 Corvette z51 Convertible 6-speed. And I soon need tires. I currently have Nitto 555 tires. Standard factory wheels 245/45/17 (front) and 275/40/18 (rear). I heard the Nitto's are a good tire and the Nitto Invo's are even better I like the appearance of the side walls but I've heard about MANY other tires and the more I hear the more confused I get as to which ones to purchase next.

I'm considering going with Non-Runflats for a Better Softer QUIET Ride I'm ok with going back with the Nitto 555's but if there is a better tire (like the Nitto Invo or Michelin Pilot Super Sports A/S 2) I'd like to consider them. I'm a conservative driver HOWEVER I just got the car and the more I drive this thing the more aggressive and FUN it is to drive, especially with that 6-speed. So I think I want to get some tires that will hook to the road well, ride soft and RIDE QUIET.

I've seen the Continentals (50k miles) tires my buddy has but I just don't like the side wall pattern. Big old-English lettering on the side walls. I like a tire to look sleek and hi-tech as well as it performs. I guess I'm a DETAIL type of guy.

I've seen the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus non-run-flats (Quiet ride) They seemed to be what MOST at Carlisle had on their C5's. They look good and reviews are good.

One poster here on the forum said...."The Michelin PS2 tires are the best tires available, but they're more tire than you need if you do nothing more than gentle cruising. If you want the smoothest riding, quietest tires at an extremely reasonable price, you can't beat the General Exclaim UHPs."

Another said...." I just bought a set of Nitto NT05's from discount tire for ~$900 shipped. If your looking for their better riding tire look into the Invos."

Another said..."Nitto Envo! Hands down.......almost every Corvette around has them....best sticky tire once they warm up.....excellent handling!"

(BTW, ...The Envo is what my Local Corvette Shop recommends and they say all their friends pretty much use them.)

Another said...."Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the best tires I have run on any Vette I have owned. They are quite, wear reasonably well, and grip like glue.
Have had Goodyears, Pirellis, Firestones, and Michelins. Michelins are the best."

Any Recommendations or comments welcomed! Thanks In Advance!!!

Opinions are all over the place, plenty of threads. I wanted the softest ride and bought Michelin.

Yes, you'll get many opinions on which tires are the best.

I run the Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs on my car and am very pleased with them. Good handling, low road noise, excellent price and very good tread wear rating.

I'm getting to that point as well. I'm down to the Hankook Ventus or the Nitto Invo.

Michelins and Yokahamas are too rich for my blood!

All depends on driving style and if its a daily or season car.

I drive mine all the time and gone from run flats which i thought where good, to all season tires. The all seasons eagle f1 are very similar in grip to the run flat d3s summer tire.

However, I've also driven in pouring rain on the freeway and flooded area in both tires. Never lost grip in either one.

I recently completed a cycle of tire research myself, had to get new rims as well so it was a big change. Ended up going with the Michelin Pilot Sport a/s 3s. all the reviews seemed to good.

I have a 2001 vert amd am running Michelin Pilot sport ZPs on it. They are quiet and run as smooth as any other tire I've had. They are a bit pricey.
I do not track my car, other than an occasional auto cross.

I purchased my 2000 FRC C5 about 4 months ago. It has Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT tires on it. They look practically brand new. They have great grip and I don't notice tire noise or bad ride quality. Just wondering why there is no mention of these tires in these conversations????

Of course, like every other similar thread, eventually every tire being manufactured will be listed as 'the best' by someone.

Well I got my Michilen Pilot Sport 3 A/S Runflats in today, and my initial reaction is vs my old NT01/NT05 combo there is only a LITTLE bit of road noise, it’s very minor pretty much only noticed it because I was listening for it. The ride doesn’t appear particularly harsh either. Honestly aside from them clearly not griping as hard as my Nittos they’re a great tire. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.
