Wheeler Dealers

For everyone saying that Ant didn't like the Corvette until the end when he got to drive it, you do realize that the show is scripted? Who knows what he really thinks. I do miss the old, early episodes of Wheeler Dealer with Edd China and the tiny budget it seemed much more authentic.

I agree. When the show was filmed and produced in the U.K., it seemed very natural, even though it may very well have been scripted. I believe it was Attaboy Productions. Since the show left the U.K., I think it lost its charm. Luckily, I can still find some of the old episodes online.

I love Wheeler Dealers, since the very beginning. I do miss Edd but Ant is good too, and the new format is more streamlined and less quaint. I still like it. What I thought was interesting about this show wasn't so much the car (yes I liked the car), but that this was their first experiment in a 100% internet purchase. Looks like they did pretty well with it, but not a real bargain considering they really didn't make any money on it. The old saws about mid-life crises, gold chains and such get really old...but then I'm a 50 year old Corvette owner, so who am I to judge? I did like the fact they came around from the stereotypes and really showed what a good sports car it is, not just a poseur-mobile.

I'm 54, so if my Vette is a mid-life crisis problem, that's the best news I've gotten in a long time. If my math is correct, that means I'll live to be 108 !
I missed the episode, but have the dvr set for the re-run on the 17th.

Average age of Porsche owners is 56, btw.
I did like at the end of the show when they took the car to the track (Spring Mountain). Ant loved it, called it an engineering marvel and a driver's dream. Mike had to step out of the car as a passenger because he got sick. Haha.

I hadn't watched the show since Ed left but I thought that this was a pretty good show. They did a good job of addressing a lot of C5 issues. They did show at the end that he had over 30 man hours in it. At shop prices it would have added at least 3 to $4K in !able and he sold it for virtually no profit

I wish I would have seen the show before I purchased my car. I had to repair both the Clutch and the ECBM on mine. I wasn't able to find anyone to fix my ECBM for $10 like in the show.

I think he quoted the $10.00 as the actual relay cost that was replaced.......assuming you crack the unit open and do the soldering, etc.
I think he over paid for the car that was to be flipped. Odometer showed over 94,000 miles and it had obvious service work that was needed. What kind of mechanic does a pre-sale inspection and doesn't check the computer for codes or realize the car needs a clutch? Reality TV at its finest, lol. At best, that was a $12k to $14k purchase IMO.
Three or four years ago I met both Edd and Mike at SEMA and they were both very nice and approachable. At that time Mike told me they had plans for doing many more shows involving the USA and filming here....."big things" he said. I guess he was right. I enjoy the show and hope they keep it going, it's definitely better than some of the ridiculous hillbilly car shows that are out there.

Great to see the C5 on the show and the track. Interesting how Ant was talking about squeezing extra hp with the underdriven balancer but it looked like the stock airbox was still on the car.

Agreed, I was 33 when I bought my C5 Z06, 35 now. A good sports car is a good sports car. Funny what digs people have to resort to on a car when they have nothing else that's tangible.

PS - Great point/factoid on the avg age of Porsche owners!

Watching the episode on DVR as we speak. I saw the CL ad posted on another thread awhile back. For all the touting of the detailing job they did, the ad shows some pretty bad hologramming on the photos. I'd be upset if I brought in a professional detailer and had the car look like it did in the photos.
I like that they hit all the major issues with the cars.
That being said, I absolutely love WD and have legit watched every episode since the first season with the 924 and GTI with the upside down striping kit. It's one of the exceedingly few car shows I watch because outside of the silly banter between Mike / Edd in the final US episodes and Mike and Ant they don't have the stupid reality TV format where the care more about the artificial drama than the actual show.

To revive an old thread, do you guys think the buyer who paid $18k got a good deal? While a lot of work was done to the car i,e. Clutch, Flywheel, Seat, HB, Torque bearing, ceramic coating, you can't erase the miles and at 94k miles for $18k it seems like Mike may have bought it too high to begin with.

So, to me a good deal.
