High Pitched Howl After Exhaust Install
So I ditched the Magnaflow system as some of you may know, because it was way too quiet. So I purchased a titanium exhaust off a c5z and had the bypass mod done correctly. I had a reputable shop remove my magnaflow and xpipe and install a brand new Corsa xpipe along with the ti system. As I drove away I got a high pitched howl at 1800-2100 rpms. Crazy! It sounds like its coming in from the shifter area, hard to tell. I never had this noise before.
I have a 2000 FRC cammed with LT headers and about 28k miles now. I've searched all over the web and have found nothing. I was going to disconnect the mufflers at the first set of flanges behind the axle and see if its possibly a bad muffler. Friends are telling me to put the magnaflow back, but I refuse. Its quieter than stock. I did read somewhere on this forum that someone had a howling sound when they added an xpipe, but that seems weird.

If you have a " High pitched howl" you have an exhaust leak. or possibly a vacuum leak. A tight TI system and Corsa Xpipe will not cause a high pitched howl. I'm leaning toward a leak in the titanium weld. Since welding titanium is a very specific welding art form.

check the mounting bracket on the bell-housing cover for the forward exhaust mount, if it's loose or missing, it will cause a drone ????

I agree with Evil-Twin - sounds like maybe an exhaust leak or a vacuum leak.

I'll have to bust out some tricks to try and track this down. I hope it's not the titanium welds. It could be the muffler guy's welds where he welded the xpipe near the converters.

Exhaust leaks galore down here. I'm wondering if the titanium exhaust I had installed is now more restrictive than the Mangnaflow and is now exposing all the leaks more by making wired noises. Here's what I did, using a shop vac. One of my o2 bungs has a small hole where a weld was missed as well.
