I would consider the numbers very accurate 0-60 is 0-60. What these numbers show- is that conditions matter and that no two cars are exactly alike, no two drivers are exactly alike and no two days are exactly alike.

Manual vs Automatic is a Lilliputian argument. I own a bone stock manual Corvette. I like it, but liking a manual does not mean I have to dislike an automatic Corvette and when it comes to performance- at best we are talking about a few 1/10s of a second.

Anyone who owns an automatic Corvette (no mater the generation or color)...you have my respect. You and I both drive and enjoy a Corvette.

Seeing how any corvette these days is a geezer car buy what you want. Coming on here and asking us what you like is kinda dumb, Hmmm Taco Bell or McDonald for lunch? Let me get on the fast food forum and ask where I should go.

I don't know anything about these cars I have never owned one so just curious what the vib is on Auto or manual before I was bidding on a car on EBAY.

The one very valid point in this thread was you are asking a car that can go 180 MPH to do it in 4 gears with a AUTO which is 45 MPH per gear and the 6 speed has 50 % more gears so it is only 30 MPH per gear and seems as though the gears would be much more evenly spaced out when you are dealing with such little HP " TORQUE " output as one of these cars are stock.

The A4 wakes up quite a bit with a tune and is better for drag racing. For auto cross and road racing the manual is what you need.
A4 is good for long commutes in stop and go city traffic. Manual if you have winding roads in the mountains.

Fl. is completely level and the roads run straight.

It would seem like in a stock motor setup for drag racing the 6 speed would turn a better time in 1/4 mile ?

By the way that car looks nice from the rear ..

Can you shift faster than the A4 without ever missing or hitting the rev limiter? What about launch control?

It isn't about the quickness of shifting, it has to do with spacing of the gear ratios between the gears. The first 4 gears of the M6 are very close ratio, making them very good for acceleration. The gears in the A4 are spaced too far apart for the best acceleration and you'd have to be pretty bad at shifting the manual to run slower than the automatic...the launch would be easier with the automatic, but that too could be overcome by the manual with a little practice...

I want to be in the gear I want when I want and for as long as I want !!!! so you say you can do the same with a Auto ??? see which one lasts longer !!!! to me a manual is more fun period !!!!!! That car I was bidding on was a deal, the guy who dropped the bid on it and won it did not have the money to get it and the dealer had to move it even at a loss because they needed room on the lot.

They sold some cars so now they have room so it is back for sale with a reserve of 15 grand. They sold it for 12450 before and the dealer told me they would have lost 800 on it. The moral of the story is you can get 1 owner garage queens cheap but you have to pull the trigger when it all lines up.

For the quarter mile it would have more to do with the rear gear ratio imo.... most of the A4s have a 283 while the M6 is a 342. That was my first mode along with a small stall and it really made a difference. I believe it would hang with a stock M6 in a straight line. I realize the conversation was stock for stock that’s why I didn’t bring it up before, but that is the bigger advantage for those cars in a straight line. There is some loss through the auto but the speed of shifting and never hitting rev limiter while maxing out rpm will make auto cars close to even for lots of drivers and faster than many in a manual. But the M6 would be fun.

So there good with a tune, all my other vehicles are automatic so it would make sense for me to have one stick in the family. I know autos are fine but I just cannot seem to get enthused about getting one in my first Vette and I wanted to see how people felt about the 2 different style trannies..
