How boring is a GEEZER auto compared to a stick....
The Auto's are easier to come by in what I want and seem to be cheaper, I want a stick for sure but am about tired of looking for something I like that is close. Fl has become a backed up state, am I better off with a auto and I have not owned a stick for years.
The cars that I want are 1000 miles away and one is 18 and the other 20..... but they are real nice...
Thanks for any help.

In the good ol' day's I would never, ever have a auto ( most 2 spd) I drove a big rig for 4 million miles (13&15 spds) and now I would never, ever have a stick.
If you have not driven a stick in years and you will be driving in traffic ; you will find your left leg has gotten weak, not pushing a clutch, in and out in traffic.
Your call, and good luck.

TBH I couldn’t even imagine my car being automatic. Where’s the fun? Where’s the driving experience? You drive an automatic. You become one with a 6 speed Z06. To me it’s an amazing experience. It’s like mind, body and soul. My uncle drove my car once and he said you don’t get in that car, you put it on. I have to agree. It’s like an Ironman suit. It uses your whole body to control it, but you can do some amazing things with it. And minivans are automatic for a reason.

I learned to drive a stick shift almost 60 years ago. I have two Vettes, both automatics. The C-7 has the paddle shifts and can be just as much 'fun' as any stick, and the new autos are better than you are, at shifting (if you don't use paddle). Driving a stick Vette is fun, but it ain't all that. I call those who make fun of those of us that have auto Vettes as elitists, not practical thinkers.

Only way I'd buy a C5 automatic is for building another dedicated drag race car. and it would have to make so much power it was still forcing you to drive the car.
If the car I had now which I put into the catagory of if I would have not bought it I would have regretted it were to have been an automatic, I would have passed on it.

I had to work with a dealer to get a manual Tacoma as a daily driver, so I'm the worst person to comment on this.
If you want the manual and even have questions about whether or not you want it, get the manual. It's not a particularly challenging car to drive and the manual cars seem to hold their value more than the automatic counterparts.
My hot take is that an automatic Corvette (unless there's a legit medical reason) might as well have a a Cadillac badge on it and a landau roof. Seeing the death of manual transmission sports cars in lieu of those with flappy paddle gear boxes is disheartening. I don't care if they're faster / more economical, it's just a high speed couch to me.

100%. If a manual is what you want, an automatic won't do. Do yourself the favor and get the manual - it is what YOU want. No comparison in the experience of an auto versus a 6-speed ... as others have said. I have a 6-speed FRC and would not want a manual, in the C5. Perhaps another forum member, in the area of the cars you like could check them out, take some detailed pics and a video and e-mail the info to you or call you, while on site. There are also services that will do this for you and they are reasonably priced. If it's a go - have the car shipped to you. Traveling to get the car you want is part of the experience in my opinion and is worth it. If it were me, I would get what I want and would not settle. Life is too short.

After 7 previous Corvettes only one was an automatic and I said never again. My 1981 C3 was a nice looking car I bought from a friend. Low horsepower and automatic transmission is a bad combination. Retiring in SW Florida I still insisted on manual transmission. Had to look a while for my Miata MX5 and the same for my 02 vert. Traffic and old folks make automatics very popular down here. Maybe someday I'll try an auto again but not today.
