I remember a few years ago a new C5 owner took his car to his regular mechanic and he cracked the rocker panels by not using jacking pucks. Most oil change places also do a multi point inspection. It is nice if they know a little about the car.

I would take it to a corvette specialist or at the very least, a place that works on sports cars/hotrods.
***Beware of dealers**** this is the first thing this forum has taught Vette owners.
Sorry about your husband
I trust my dealership more than the independents in town. They have the tools, manuals and expertise that small shops don't and it has two Corvette specialists that own Corvettes. They also stand behind their work. Dealerships might be more expensive, but they also want to sell me a new vehicle so they treat me right. Local independent sports car shop wanted $350 to replace fuel filter. The dealership did it for 120 bucks. Not all dealerships are bad. Small town dealerships can be the best.

Default OMG Don't take ANY CAR TO JIFFY LUBE

The worst place you can take a car is Jiffy Lube. Besides not knowing what they are doing they have ruined numbers of cars including Corvettes. One around here put OIL in a vette transmission.
High School dropouts and idiots are what you expect to find there.
If you have other cars take them anywhere else or you will be sorry.

Corvettes are not easy to have maintained if not doing it yourself, I am on Long Island and there are two shops that I would even consider. I am sure there are trustworthy dealers out there but not many in any in NY. I am happy that you found a good reliable source.

See if there are any Corvette clubs in your area. Im sure that a gentleman will step up and volunteer to change the oil for you. Were a pretty close knit group. Of coarse, you bring the oil and filter.......and beer.

I would take it to your local Chevy dealer (as long as they have a good reputation) and get it done there. Sorry for the loss of your husband. May he rest in peace.

OP take it to a place that knows something about Corvettes. Dealerships usually have at least one tech that knows Corvettes.
It's a Corvette not a Ferrari. I've done my own oil change and I have had it serviced at local franchise lube shops. Heaven forbid you have a grease monkey that get's paid $8 an hour do the work.

Please elaborate on how you put oil in sealed system? I'm assuming the vehicle was an automatic.

Yes you should ensure that they jack it up properly for sure. I will say that my mechanic is a very experienced worker and he did use the proper protection when jacking it up and I was already comfortable with him as hew has been working on my Porsche and my other vehicles for years. So I definitely should say make sure the person has good references if you do not know their work.

Luckily I noticed it when I got home and it didn't run dry.

Very good advice.

This is a really good idea. I wish I had mentioned it.

Also, @backpacker, if you're thinking about selling the car soon, don't change the oil. Someone doing a "pre purchase inspection" will be able to tell more from older oil that's been driven for some miles. I always wonder if someone who changed the oil right before I inspect the car is trying to hide an issue that will show up in their older oil. Old oil in good condition, from an engine in good condition is a positive when I do an inspection.

.

No it's not a Ferrari, but it is as low and it is different than other cars.
You get what you pay for. Years back I had my oil changed in my truck at a Jiffy lube. When I got home I noticed a line of oil behind it. They had forgotten to reinstall the drain plug in the rear end. Luckily It still had some gear oil in it. Could have cost me thousands of dollars. $8 bucks an hour was way to much pay for their oil changers. There have been class action lawsuits against quick oil change places for not changing oil, using inferior bulk oil and selling parts that you don't need. They have to make money somehow.
Taking your car to the WORST mechanics in town for service is a bad idea in my opinion.

In Va. we have to have an annual car inspection( not sure about other states-most do I imagine ) and I bring the oil to the dealership and when they inspect the car they only charge me 10.00 to change it. If there is anything wrong they can fix it while they have it ( like adjust the parking brake, change fuel filter ec. ) -- I keep a slush fund to pay for it and it has worked well for me over the last 6 yrs.--- and condolences for your loss.

REALLY????
That's the best advise you can give this woman???

Use a Chevy Dealer, there must be one near to wherever you live, & they may also be able to give you the service history on the vehicle as well as tell you what will be needed done to it in the near future.

What shops do you trust? I'm on LI also [Lindenhurst] and dread going for service.

Wondering if this will be yet another thread where the OP never appears again?

so far I have done everything myself but after installing my Z suspension I will bring it to TKX Performance in Huntington, this place is real good and one of the two places I would even consider taking it to.

Vette doctors in Lindenhurst would be the other, they don’t do alignments though, they send it out and I didn’t want that.

She did circle back with a thank you a couple of days ago-- it appears she most like Joephu's suggestion to "See if there are any Corvette clubs in your area. Im sure that a gentleman will step up and volunteer to change the oil for you. Were a pretty close knit group. Of coarse, you bring the oil and filter.......and beer."

That was actually my favorite suggestion! She'll certainly get the help she needs with the oil change and make new friends in the process.

I'm originally from LI, I used Vette Dreams in W. Babylon when I lived there.
Great service.
