Yeah you drove your crap hard then got under it and touched the bellhousing by the transmission to know how hot it was.
Yeah right.
While you were there I guess you didn’t notice the axle back exhaust turns up and hugs the TT/Transmission. Gee I wonder if that causes the torque tube to be hot? Guess I need a thermal engineering course (and dropout like you) to figure it out.

I'm impressed. Have you ever taken an engineering course on thermodynamics and heat transfer? Let me know how the 'hand test' works out. I have to admit that heat was not such a big deal on my '02 coupe but a complete insulation of the tunnel made a whopping difference on the '11 GS .... so I went back and did the '02 also. I can keep candy in the console on each vehicle.
anyway, the insulated tunnel plate greatly reduced the cabin heat plus stiffened up the ride on curves and corners for me and i also insulated the console box so I CAN keep chocolate candy in it if i wanted to...

For those that have insulated only the plate, check TT heat after driving and let us know what you find. If you discover that it's cool (ambient) you just witnessed a miracle! Engine block heat ~150 min...... tranny heat ~ 150 min ..... TT sandwiched in the middle ... 90? You bet.

No experience with the products referenced. I used reflectix from the hardware store to line the interior of the entire car and was pleasantly surprised at the improvement. I think it cost me $50

Aside from the heat shield, the elite plate is much more of a backbone than the thin stamped factory piece.
If you plan to keep your car long term it’s worth the money.

FWIW _ I also put the Elite on my 04 and it does a great job ! Another thing I did was buy a insulating kit for the inside of my car from a vendor no longer on the forum and that helped cut down on the heat even more so.
I think I read in the past that some people here on the forum were putting 2 of the tunnel plate covers on their cars to stiffen them up. Definitely a cheaper alternative if it works

Our TPS Tunnel plate does a great job with eliminating chassis flex and when ordered with our Thermal Shield it eliminates the excessive heat from the center console/ transmission tunnel

Drifting
I have been reading up on this. I see there are options from ceramic coating, to precut insulation to DIY solutions.
I just want to cut down a bit of the heat coming from my tunnel into the car. It is not a daily driver so I do not need the best thing available, just something to help with the heat.
Anyone have a recommendation on a type of heat insulation that will hold up in this environment and not be overly expensive?

Here is a link to my post. Pics and others with same experience in heat reduction.

Headers and cats feels like 2x the heat from stock. I currently have whitelighting on my headers and all the DEI kit but still feel a good amount of heat and its all from my cats, once I move up a class it will be nice to drill a massive hole in them. You can also add a c6 tunnel cover thats much thicker than the c5 tunnel cover for cheap.

We've been having some of this ssme discussion overe HERE for a week or so.
Some solutions include wrapping the primaries. For the cats or collectors DEI offers an insulated steel stand off plate and a similar standoff as just fiberglas. And my own recommendation was DEI tunnel shield 2 sheets up in the actual tunnel over the TT and/or also covering the back of the tunnel plate. The material is very light so we're not adding excessive weight.
