I installed the dual air filter set up on my 2000 FRC. Was thinking of using the grill screens in the fog light area and remove the recessed housing around the fog lights for cool air intake. I was curious if the grill screens on the Z06s are functional and do the same thing?
Not a huge fan of the grills screens. Looks kinda Honda civic to me. I would just cut open what you got or buy some of the fog/driving light surrounds that have a grill molded into them.
West Coast Corvette sells a pair of premolded replacements for like 89 dollars. I've not seen them in person but they do look great from what I've seen and they should perform in the way you are looking.
drill your own holes......go to Home depot and buy some gutter guard mesh, cut to fit...leave silver of paint black......be careful though that **** will slice you up
I used it to make the screen for my plate filler when I cut that out for more air for my maggie
Drilling your own holes works fantastic but it generally looks like you drilled your own holes. And then put hardware store screen in it.
Not saying that it is bad. Don't get me wrong. If you are into looks and detail where it can be seen I don't like it. That's not important to many though.
If it could not be seen at all I would be on board with drilling away.
That is why I cut out a rectangle instead of holes...then I bought the original ZO6 screens.and put them in place and you can see the fog lights when they are on..
Have to agree with Mr. Black, which is why I've been dragging my feet on this one. The Amazon screens look better, but I'm curious about the rectangle you cut out Kenny. Any pix?
If I use a screen in the opening like the Z06s, I like the wire screen better than the perforated panels, and it would allow more air to pass through. Then I can just remove the fog light surrounds altogether.

I just drilled some holes in the radiator shroud. You still get fresh air to the intake and engine compartment .... but the holes are hidden .... and it's free. No issue with debris or water. I kept the OE box but opened it up for better airflow. Perfect solution IMO.

OK...i got good news and not so good news...i thought i was a genius by cutting rectangles in the fog light shrouds years ago and it actually did seem like it was keeping the temp down a bit...fast forward, in the spirit of not giving mis information, i have to show you what is really happening and not just my back yard shade tree mechanic guessing experience with cooling the engine compartment...
Although now, since I have a heat extracting hood (MCM), it really does make a difference of about 15 to 20 degrees...sorry about the mis info i have been preaching about air flow from just opening up the fog shrouds...
Please read this carefully....i just now received this important factual information and i see it as the truth when it comes to cutting holes everywhere without a heat extracting hood....forgive me

You can drill all the holes in the radiator or fog light shrouds you want, drill holes in the air box, and with out a HEAT EXTRACTING HOOD, the hot air is going nowhere, it will just sit there under the hood... AND... you need a " proper" heat extracting hood, not a cowl hood at the base of the windshield, because down force air from the windshield will stop any air from escaping from that area"
THIS INFO IS FROM SOMEONE WHO SPENT OVER 80 HOURS IN THE GM WIND TUNNEL WITH THE C5...
...but it is still a chit hole size...I tried all kinds... first the Blackwing for a couple of thousand miles .....thought i could do better....... then the zip tie method(no lid at all)...then swiss cheese method(drilled lots of holes on the stock lid)) and finally went back to the Blackwing....and its the best for me...
Top one is the Z06 ...not much air getting in that hole....Then i drilled holes(swiss cheese method)....not very good either...

How do you define 'happy'? Is there a noticeable performance gain with the black wing? For me (drilled holes underneath) , I just wanted some satisfaction that I was getting max fresh air to the intake. I never expected a noticeable hp gain. Didn't get one either. Ha!
