Default I may move to a C6

I have a 2001 coupe with 65000 on the clock pewter in color. I have stumbled across a 2008 C6 white in color which is the color I Really want that has 68500 on the clock
i have upgraded my C5 with C6 zo6 sway bars and shocks and brake motive drilled and slotted rotors I have C6 wheels and brand new tires as well. Also stainless brake lines and a full kenwood sound system with front and rear cameras, sub woofer and replaced all the speakers. I have installed headers and have both a color top and the smoked top.
i owe less than 9k on my car and they want 19k for the C6.
i really want the C6 and the only debt I have is my house payment and my vette payment. My insurance on the c5 is only 310 a year.
i am really torn wether to keep what I have or move up

LS3 would be niiiiiice.

But I would definitely keep your C5, sounds like a darling and you invested a good bit in it. An 08+ C6 is awesome but that’s a lot of coin for a used car with almost ~70k on it and you may have to dump more $$ into it to raise it to your spec.

How is the car you're driving performing, any issues? How much more in debt will you be?

Me personally, the day my Vette was paid for, the more fun it became to drive. If your car is doing well, I would stick with it. You already know the car. The C6 might have to be sorted and could run far more than the asking price.

$ aside, own the car that moves you more.

Have you driven the 08 yet? - your insurance might go up when you get a ticket

You Owe 9 Grand on a car that is 18 years old. I am assuming you are not going to keep it. But maybe you are.. If you are going to trade in the C5 you may not break even, but if you did, you would be adding 19 grand to your liability. You do not mention anything about your personal affairs, are you married, do you have kids ? I can not see the slight upgrade to a C6 with an unknown heritage and adding 19 grand to your liability. Your C5 has been personalized to your own vision. , you know the car. You do not know the C6 in an intimate way like you do with your C5, With what you have presented here, I would never make that move.

You’re talking yourself into it.

Follow your first glance gut feeling. Yes or no is really that simple.

LS3 is a huge upgrade over a LS1 and the C6 is a better car all around. While the C6 is a bit more refined it doesn't have that raw feeling that one gets with a C5. If I were you I would go take a LS3 C6 for a test drive and see what you think.

What E-T says makes a lot of sense.

If you haven't driven the '08, do so and see what you think.

My C5 is in very nice shape and drives very well. And yes I know it very intimately. I am 48 and in good health, married and kids are all raised our youngest is a sophomore in college and he has a full ride to school. My home will be paid off in 2 years, and the C5 will be paid off in 2 years as well. I plan on going to drive the C6 this Saturday. The C5 is not my daily driver I drive a 2004 Chevy 2500hd service truck daily with 180k and still climbing. So the mileage does not scare me. I bought my C5 almost 2 years ago. I still have all the parts to revert my C5 back to stock outside of the stereo, it died is why I upgraded. I have drove a C6 before one of my friends has a black 2007 base.
so you can tell when I found out the youngest got his full ride is when I plunged in and finally bought my vette.
i will not be financially harmed by getting the C6. But the idea of being totally debt free in 2 years is very alluring.
this is why I think I am wrestling with this decision more than I normally would be.

Then save your $$$ and pay for the C6 when you have the cash. Bikes / Boats / Cars … I personally do not finance non-necessities.

That's a lot of good background information and makes it pretty easy for me to give you some advice.

Own and drive your C5 a few more years (with just 65,000 miles on it, it has a lot of life left). After you have paid it off, drive it a few more years in order to bankroll your next Corvette and pay cash for it. Low mileage C6 Corvettes will always be out there and as the years go by they will be even more affordable.

If the idea of being debt free is alluring, this is what your gut is telling you. You should probably listen to your gut. If the joy of owning and driving your C5 has faded (you should check your pulse); then that's another thing altogether.

The only way I'd finance one would be for convenience...meaning I would already have enough saved up to pay cash for it before I bought one, and I would pay the loan off immediately anyway...

Your the only one that can make the decision that works for you. I’ll only say you never know what you got till it’s gone. I do know a few guys that had C5s and wanted the next great thing. And wished they had their C5s back. Good luck with your decision, sounds like you’ll be ok either way.

Default Go for it

You’re only adding $10K or so to your liability (if you sell/trade in your C5) which is nothing since you are almost done with your mortgage and have no other debt. Why wait 2 more years?

I agree with the Rabbi, much cheaper to wrap then putting yourself in more debt.

Drive the c6 and see how you feel about it. Also take your c5 and park it next to the c6 and see which you like more. Either car is a toy for you so go with the one you enjoy more.

You also dont specify which transmission the two cars have. If auto in both, the c6 will probably sway you. If manual, the c6 will still have the tougher trans, but it will be less noticeable immediately than comaring auto cars.

My plan is to keep and pay off my C5 soon, wait a few years and go for a C6Z.

Same here.

That having been said, if you feel like you can afford it, it's your choice, obviously.
