It must be grounded to the ground.

If he has the speed and power to back it up, it could be functional.
If he put it on just to have it on for aesthetics enhancement, then yes looks ridiculous.
There is a reason the C7 ZR1 has such a tall wing. In this case, don't know.

Another possible solution is to fasten the wing to the trunk lid and to have the trunk lid supported underneath by bracing in the trunk that ties to the frame. That's not as secure, but it can work, especially if it's designed right.

That wing is mounted in the right place to be functional, has the correct mounts to adjust the downforce angle for the max speed each track can handle and the conditions on any specific day.. The angle of the wing in this photo indicates the correct down force angle and No it is not mounted backwards. The wing even has canards to control high angle turn cavitation

I remember from my design days it being generally accepted that wings and spoilers on street cars were for appearance (sports package, etc) as none of them have much effect at street legal speeds.

Yeah, but unless you mount the wing to the frame, there is nothing functional about the wing on the C5 pictured. By attaching it to the hatch, if anything three is upward force on the hatch vs. downward force on the car.

No offense but how a wing is attached would have no effect on up or down force, that would have to do with the angle and such. I learned that as a kid with my hand out the window. I have no idea how that one is supported or the C7 for that matter, my point was...it could be functional.

Yes it will make downforce however it's mounted. Problem there is a lot of force on it and if it rips off mid high speed corner you'll loose your wing and your downforce and probably put your car in the wall. Have to make sure they're mounted with a proper backing, and of course support to the frame is best.
