Hey everyone, I just bought a 1998 C5 Corvette from a private seller in Texas and I live in California. Dumbass me didn’t do my research before buying this car and found out the car needs a California emissions label to be able to register in California. My Corvette has the Federal label but not the California one. Is there any way I can register in California or a way to get a CA emissions label? If this doesn’t work, could I register out of state using a family address? Just to mention, I can pass CA smog because I have someone that automatically passes me, it’s the emissions label stressing me out. I appreciate all the help in advance!
Does that '98 C5 have over 7,500 miles on it? If so it is not considered a 'new' car. From what I understand only 'new' cars have to have the California Certified label affixed. Used cars do not have that requirement. See this document for details https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/NonCAVeh/NonCAVeh.pdf .

Good luck!
thanks for your answer man! My car has 86k miles on it! So it seems like I should be fine. As long as I show a smog certificate I should be fine then right?
You have a nice car now not some beater. If it has a federal smog lable it will probably meet california smog as well as long
as THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED.
All you have to do is make an appt with a smog referee usually teaching at a community college, and they
will work with you to get this legally regestered
If this were some beater I would say yea go to your friend, but it is a nice car, do it right
