Anyone drive a beater?
I have been daily driving my C5 since September 2017, by the way in a few days/weeks I have had it 16 years.
Anyways I have only drove the C5 to jobs a few times, usually when starting at a new place, and then get a take home van.
Over 40 now and done with being a HVAC technician, going to switch to office job, which at one time in my 20s I thought that would be a awful place to work, cubicles and people's voices on the phone.
Looks like it will be 46 miles round trip a day, I think driving the Corvette every day, it might not be fun anymore?
Also, it's a 20 year old car, in pretty good shape, but still it's old!
Now my idea for the beater is way old, 1965 C10, but it's a very simple vehicle to make repairs on vs C5, the speedometer never worked since I bought it in 1995, I don't care about it racking up miles, and it's rough, needs paint and body, so it could be perfect, the only thing is, it's currently a gas guzzler compared to the 6 speed C5, 396 big block, TH400, 3.73 gears.
It will be getting a LS and overdrive as soon as possible.
So, anyone commute in a beater?

2002 Toyota Sequoia 4wd. 215,000 miles. Zero issues. The Toyota 2UZ V-8 is as indestructible as an anvil. I've seen Sequoias and Tundras go 500,000 miles without ever cracking open the engine.
I can't say enough good things about mine.

I have my grandsons '03 Mitsu Lancer with 147k miles. I only work part time and im 2 miles from work. I like the car but it needs work [exhaust rusting out]. Thinking of a c6 for a daily driver while my c5z sits in the garage.

I rotate between my boosted beaters
procharged 2002 Tahoe: right at 188k
OE blown 1997 Regal, about to roll over to 130k
I used to daily my 1991 MR2, she's rolling into 252k, but after she got rear ended by a Volvo and nearly totaled I bought the Buick. I can buy 5-6 W Body Buick's before I approach the replacement value of the MR2, so its worth it to me
Corvette, MR2 and van are my play vehicles now

My 2000 Coupe is my beater. Clear coat is dead, 142K miles. I commute 110 miles round trip daily. I drove the Coupe for several years before getting into a van pool. Great commuter car, I still use it for the days that I need to drive in. 28 MPG is great!

2002 Nissan XTerra; 168,000 miles. Bought it as a "cheap" car to drive during the winters. Come to find that there is no such thing as a "cheap" car. After buying it found that the scumbag seller sold me a line; telling me he did all this work to it so his son could use it when attending college. Live and learn.

Daily drove my Corvette at my previous job before being given a company car for my current one. 18 miles each way. Personalized the car to my tastes (primarily interior like radio and exterior lighting), paint is all scratched up, never got old. 24 mpg on average, though I usually did wait for traffic to die down before going home.

Up here in the North it's almost a requirement to have a beater because there is no way to drive a C5 through deep snow. So I have a 2000 Ford Expedition. She has about 238,000 miles and has cancer which is getting worse by the day.

Here’s mine
A 2005 Nissan Frontier 210,000 on the clock. Had to put new wheels on it, as a pothole ate the drivers side front wheel.Only major thing replaced where transmission (trans cooler introduced radiator fluid to tranny) @ 198k & new coil packs and plugs. It’s a thirsty little truck, but we love traveling in it and love that the bed locks down to hide luggage. I have to say Nissan builds a nice little truck.

2017 Honda Ridgeline is my daily beater. It's technically the wifes business vehicle but I get the luxury of getting to drive it to work during the week. Whilst kinda goofy looking to many, it's actually quite a pleasure to drive.

I swap daily duty with first car love of my life, and the C5Z.
This little guy has 189K miles and still revs to 9k every time its out.
