C5 Z06 brake job cost
I've just been quoted $280-300 for labor on all 4 corners including brake fluid change and bleed.
I'm supplying all parts and fluid.
Is that price reasonable?

If it takes them 3 hours to change brake pads and bleed them, you need to find someone who is qualified.. ON a lift, even at my age and health could do that job in an hour. the cost quote @ 300 dollars is about 3 hours shop labor. I could teach someone to do that job in half that time.

Figure typical shop rate for a pad/disc swap is 1 hour per axle. So two hours labor right there. Probably a flat fee of around $100 for a brake fluid flush. So yeah, I'd say the $300 range is acceptable.

The better question to ask is how long it will take YOU to do it, and then factor that by however much you value your time. Suddenly $200-300 becomes cheap.
I've never ever done all 4 corners of a car in less than 3-4 hours in my driveway with basic tools. There's always some **** that goes sideways or takes longer. Now granted Corvettes tend to be pretty clean and rust free in that department so it might go quicker, but still.

I agree wholeheartedly. Not worth my time/aggravation/lack of tools/lift for $200 all in.
Plus.. No way an hour for all that to the guy above there. 🙄.
And mechanics are not gonna work triple speedy gonzales fast just because We want or can do it in our backyard in that manner. Not that it's possible - all 4 corners plus complete bleed in an hour. No way!

Ive been doing this stuff for 60 years. I could do the job almost blindfolded in an hour on a left. If I had to do the job quickly, I could cut some time off the hour.
You are surprised that I do not know how the industry works...……….That's laughable... Ive taught automotive technology, Ive taught 4th and 5th year automotive engineering students to co-op hoping to get a job with GM. Ive given seminars to GM Techs.
My point was that a simple job like this is one of the easiest DIY jobs you could do. As long as you have someone hold your hand the first time.. IN 60 years Ive never paid anyone to put brakes on any of my cars... Some times I wonder why I still come here. Offering help and insight and them be called a Liar ( No way ) .. pushes me to do other things then be here.

I will say this, I’m in a trade and pay people to do things I could do myself all the time. I don’t have unlimited money but I don’t have unlimited time either. I have no idea what this job takes to do but when you supply your own parts you should expect to pay more. Somehow it’s fine for other people to make money but trades people are expected to always cut their prices.
plus it’s a corvette, those guys are a pain in the ***
I pay 6 bucks for my coffee and still tip a buck, every day.......everybody has to make a living.

Unfortunately, when someone can't perform the labor themselves, they require someone else to do it. Also unfortunately, regardless of how quickly another individual can personally perform the labor on the exact same job, it doesn't change the fact that auto shops will quote labor based on what the "book" says.
Midas charges $100 per axle on most cars (cheap pads included) every day, all day. So, the OP's original estimate of around $300 isn't crazy at all for a typical shop.

Friend of mine has a shop and he doesn’t work on cars where the owner supplies parts. He has had too many owners supply crap parts and then want the job done over when the parts fail.

Price sounds reasonable for a shop to do it nowadays. With that being said, I like to do anything that I can myself 1) so I know it's done right 2) if something gets broken, I know about it, and 3) I enjoy and take pride in doing it. As mentioned above, you're paying for someone else's time and overhead when you pay someone to do a job that you can't or don't want to do. $60-100/hr of BOOK time is typical nowadays.

The price is definitely reasonable. Go to a Chevrolet dealership and see how much they charge for a simple pad and rotor swap. I checked my local Chevy dealership for a pad/rotor swap for my 05 ZR2 Blazer because I was busy and didn't really have the time, but when they said they wanted $550 I laughed, walked away and did it in my driveway in about 2hrs including bleeding and flushing the fluid. Btw that $550 was using my own parts, so that was just for labor, just ridiculous!

Yes, that price is reasonable, at least around here.

What's your time worth? If you can't do it or don't want to do it the price doesn't seem too bad. It's quite easy to do so if you're just doubting yourself give it a shot. When I was a young kid I made the decision to buy tools instead of paying someone to fix my cars, my friends were the opposite. Now I have multiple cars and motorcycles and hardly need to go to a mechanic unless I want to.
Well, the downside I guess is my friends always try to get me to fix their cars lol
