180 degree stat
I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, at times the temp rises to 225 to 235. So is it worth getting a 180 degree stat? What are the pro's and con's?

A thermostat controls how cold the motor gets.. " NOT " how hot it gets. Once the motor heats up, the thermostat will close to keep the engine from getting too cold. Putting a 180 stat in a car will open and stay open at temps North of 180 F. Understanding how the C5 cooling system,, ( bottom feeder ) works , is not like a conventional cooling system. Understanding heat transfer with a bottom feeder is also necessary to understand the C5 cooling system. Dont waste your money on a lower thermostat. AS the only C5 corvette design engineer on this forum, you can take my advice or leave it. 30 years of automotive engineering design, with 6 years invested in the C5 design before retiring.

So what temp thermostat does my 2001 vert have? Will dual fans solve my overheating in traffic problem? Should I have the fans turn on sooner?

Safety Car
I commanded my fans on in the 195-200 range, I forget exactly. I also ditched the factory shrouded fans for a single non shrouded Spal and the car runs 187-190 on the highway now with the factory thermostat. Of course you'll need to clean your radiator and AC of all the dirt and grass and **** that gets in there. That in and of itself makes a HUGE difference.

your car already has two fans , both fans are capable of high and low speeds.. when you say your car overheats in traffic, does it boil over and do you get an over heating warning? do you think 220/230 F is over heating ? if you look at your temp gage take note where the red zone temperature is... Like I said above, you have to understand this cooling systems.. its not like your grandfathers Buick that never ran north of 180 F. This motor was designed to run hotter than most other cars. BY DESIGN...

You could also do the front license plate mod. That would make you run in the 190 with stock fan setting and t stat
