Default LS7 or LSX block for build

My OCD is messing with me. I have an LSX 454 block that is ready to build but before I do, I am trying to decide if I should sell it and get an LS7. The only thing that is eating at me is the additional weight. I am building a street car and not racing or doing any type of time trials. I will not be using any power adders so NA only.

I know the Iron block is virtually indestructible and that is leaning me towards accepting the weight penalty. Also, getting an RHS block is also on my mind...

No experience with either block but I think the weight difference would be close to negligible at this point if building for NA power.

My first thought is "just build a solid LS1/2/3/6 and save a ton of money". Let's face it...you can easily have a 500-550rwhp N/A engine based on the popular block and head combos. Max effort builds will yield more power. How much power are you looking for in your street car? What are your goals if you will not be racing the car?

If you are not racing it, I agree with FYRAMS, go with an LS...

I have already built my LS1, I want more displacement and 550-600 to the rear wheels. Not worried about wasting money, have been doing that all my life

Sounds like you didn't need our advice, then. Between the two options you gave us, I personally would choose a built LS7.

You could easily reach your goal with an LS1, 2, 3, 6 or 7. If it were me I'd go with the LS7 for more cubes which also makes 500-600 hp very easy. I don't see any reason to go with the LSX unless you plan on serious drag racing.

More cubic inches will always be more fun. Which ever will stand the biggest holes and biggest swing will yield the biggest -- and funnest -- punch.

Some great advice has been given but, as you put it, "wasting money" makes it a lot easier for you than it would others, including me. I look at it like this, if you are fearless with your checkbook, then by all means go with an LSX and waste money correctly, and get you something that is going to be damn near bulletproof.

Good luck on whatever you decide, and be sure to post a thread of what you finally settle on. We'll be eager to see how it works out for you.

I'll also join the bandwagon of if you have an LSX 454 block and an LS7 just laying around to eff with you probably don't need to be asking questions about this, especially in C5 general lol.

Out of those two options, LSX. You can build it bigger, which should make more power NA all other things equal, plus you already have the block.

On the other hand, if you're worried about weight, or care about budget, then go with an LS2 or LS3 aluminum block. You can easily get close to LS7 displacement, for a fair bit less money.
