Roof theft a worry?
Was just thinking about this the other day. I always leave the roof in the trunk, and I rarely put it on when I park somewhere. Nothing to prevent anyone from hitting the trunk release and just picking it up and walking off with it. What do you all do / are you concerned?

Long as you don’t run across Tyrone Biggums, you should be OK.

Yes, but the bad guys steal and then will sell to a Corvette owner. When I had my '64 Vert in the early 70's, I saw an ad for the hard top. Went to the sale location and found it was not consistent with someone having any money for a Corvette. Knowing that there was no ID numbers on the top for checking ownership, I bought it. Times have changed since then. They gotten worse. I would definitely lock the car when the top is off. I do with my vert.

There's nothing stopping anyone from stealing the top with just the windows down. I guess the roof isn't high on the list of things thieves want to take. My guess is unless you own one you either don't know it comes off or don't know how to take it off.

And there have got to be better things to steal than a Corvette roof. I mean if you stole some advanced lubricant from Clark W. Griswald, it might make a good sled but otherwise, as hard to carry off as to get on, Later dudes!

At car shows I always have the targa top off, usually up against a tree somewhere. I leave the Vette alone a lot, sometimes for an hour or more to look at other cars, eat, etc. I never have worried my targa top would get stolen but I do worry about my V1 getting legs.

Given the price of a replacement the original thought /concern was someone taking it to sell. When the roof is off and I'm out, unless I'm under a tree (birds) or it's a hot day, I leave the roof off, windows down, and typically doors unlocked (at that point why bother). I may at least start arming the thing at this point. I don't leave it long..usually out for drinks or dinner with a friend, but it only takes a second to make off with the roof...

Leave your wallet on the seat, then they won’t touch the roof....
Honestly I would just hit the lock button it’s what I do with my convertible the trunk release doesn’t work when the doors locked, yes I know someone could unlock the door but it’s just this one extra step.
