Shelton WA Autox 7/14/2019
Went to an autox event in Shelton WA on Sunday. It was a blast. The track was spectacular, the people who run it are top-notch, and the other participants are a great group to hang out with. This was my second autox, the first was in Shelton as well. Here is a video of one of my runs, sorry there is no sound, I didn't realize the mic was off on my camera. It still is a pretty good video, I will post a couple more videos later.

you walk the course a few times and think you have it, then at speed things happen very quick and you can get lost results in a DNF !!!!! It took me a couple of years to get it, very very seldom get lost now !!!

Looks like fun. I'd be one of those that would get off course, of course...I've yet to participate in one but hope to someday.

Glad you had a good time!! I had the Black Rose '93 that was behind you. The weather for the entire weekend was nice; not too hot not too cold and just enough sun to keep the surface warm. Our Sunday Corvette event is held in conjunction with a Viper event on Saturday. Corvettes get to run at their event and the Viper guys run with us on Sunday. We typically have as many as 50 entrants on each day and we provide 10 runs per day. The course length for Sunday was just under a mile and we had a few cars with 50 second times.
In the vid, you can see a white trail of oil sweep on the back side. This was due to one of the Vipers during the Saturday event that lost a line to the oil cooler. The engine wasn't apparently hurt, but he managed to dump 11 quarts of oil on the track Took a good 2-1/2 hours to clean up and re-start the event.

I'm too scared to do such events as I would end up damaging my Vette and my insurance company would say screw you to any payments.
Cool videos though.

Auto X is fairly safe as far as damage, the cones mostly leave black marks which I use Brake dry clean to take off (yes it's safe to use) front splitters and such can get broken. to me the fun is worth it, these cars are made for this !!!!

I agree it is pretty safe for the most part. I let the videos run long so you would get to see the other cars that were there. A lot of really nice cars. I hit a cone at the one I did in June and it left a pretty good scuff that I think will buff out, but I am not worried about it that much(battle scar). George, yes it was a great time and I already registered for next months. You should bring your c5 down to Lake Fair show on Friday, I won't have my car in the show but will be down there, I would like to check it out.

Was the autocross held at the Shelton Airport? Lived in Shelton years ago, nice town. Also, what organization sanction the autocross? Looked like a nice day and a good turn out! Thanks for sharing your runs.

Yes, Shelton Airport. It was good weather cloudy in the am and sunny in the pm and not very hot by Washington standards. NWACC is who puts on the Sunday run and a viper club does Saturday, but I don't go to that one, most guys do both days.

The Washington State Patrol Academy is about a quarter-mile away. The have a road course where they teach pursuit driving and a pistol range. Sometimes you can hear the squealing tires, sirens, and the weapons training. We tell the entrants that if you hear tires squealing, the sirens, and gunfire, it's just training, not a crime wave...
