A nice paint job definitely has it's merits and looks nice...no doubt. I think the thing people often dismiss though, is how a nice, shiny paint job, suppresses a well designed car. When you have a car with very flowing surfaces, or some very detailed and specific elements you want people to see; a shiny paint job acts as camouflage. Camouflage to the body lines namely. For this reason, I've often not liked shiny paint on certain cars. Shiny paint doesn't allow your eye to absorb the surface of the car....satins and matte finishes do.
It's like back when I did my satin white pearl...pearl creates color shifts depending on light and really highlights certain facets of the car. Like the edge that forms the base of the side cove...that's a significant design line that is very camouflaged by shiny paint. See it highlighted in this photo as the wrap was getting laid....once the wrap hit that, it exploded off the car...became a visual element that was very suppressed by the paint.
For me...I think "good paint" doesn't necessarily mean shine...it's more about surface and color consistency, the blend of pearls or metallic...the clear coat is what defines the shine and I think people should play with that more. It's what drew me to wrap...painting a satin is much tougher than wrapping a satin...and I've done both...lol.
Yeah...working on several. Just was out shooting last night but my SLR footage was shaky...doing a video update on the lights. Got sick as hell....again....so did my gf...been a bad two months.
lol...what does that even mean...haha. I just never liked looking at my car and seeing trees...I don't want trees on my car...haha. I guess that's not boring though, I'll give you that.
