Default Intake Manifold Advice

2000 LS1 6spd . Must do that lovely oil pressure switch so I figure why put the factory intake back on , Right? I would love to get more power here and there. I'm really not ready to rip the engine apart yet plus its only has 75K . I have an I believe its called a Varroom cold air , Hooker headers , Borla X Pipe and the rest out the back done . She runs great but would love more . LOL . So does anyone have any advise if I should put a OEM LS6 manifold on or FAST, Holley's version . Do I replace throttle housing also? . I would also like to get it tuned If you guys recommend that also. Anyone out there with some advice please. Thanks

Leave it alone.

Intakes don't make power. And the cost per horsepower gained it might pick up is ridiculously high.

Fast92 is $1,130 + $300 Silver Blade tb + $25 wiring adapter + $500ish retune. Roughly two grand for no appreciable sotp gain.

For example - a cam and a tune is HALF that and makes for an actual power increase.

Save your intended cash and let it double. When you want power and have about $4500 you can score a solid low miles used supercharger and enjoy factory cam life and mpg when cruising but 500+ rw when you want it. And leave the factory TB and intake as they are. Guys run 9s on factory LS6 intakes. The LS1 isn't going to make appreciably less power with +10psi being shoved through it.

Agreed, not really worth it getting a FAST on an otherwise stock car. Check the part number on your intake you have now - a 2000 should have an LS1 intake, so an LS6 would be a decent upgrade, but even then you're $300-500 for the intake itself, plus tune.

PM me on some info on 2000 power mods. I have a 2000 A4, 3.15 diff equipped vert. I'll show you how I gained a lot of power without going into the engine, or even pulling the sparkplugs. I went from 13.60s to 12.80s, 102mph traps to 110mph traps. No headers. I can't say for certain this will work for other model years......

It isn't stock. IHE. You can also get the 2001+ manifold which is a little better. If I found one cheap enough I might pop it on. Though Id be looking for 243/799 heads and a cam instead. You'll get an actual power increase. Used heads are surprisingly cheap.

My '00 is a mid year but I somehow got the LS1 intake, the LS6 would be a good upgrade as others have said.

Hotrod did an article on a box stock LS1 upgrade to the LS6 intake. Unfortunately for us, it was on an F-body, but the results should still be directly relevant. They did before and after pulls with the stock intake and tuning, the LS6 intake with stock tuning, and the LS6 intake with modified tuning. They found 10 HP from just the manifold and 25 HP from both the LS6 intake and modified tuning.

I agree with some of the others. An intake manifold swap is like a Cold Air Intake. Neither one does much by itself. But they do scale nicely with other mods. I wouldn't do it unless you're also planning on doing some supporting mods either now or in the near future.

01 Z06 was the first to get the LS6 intake and then ALL 02-04 C5's got them.

You should absolutely replace the LS1 intake ... at the same time that you do the heads and cam.

The LS6 intake is better than the LS1 and if you can find a good one for the right price, it would be a decent swap.

Its all in the combo, and an LS6 intake is a real good place to start. A tune is probably the single biggest gain you'll get without going into the engine. Combine all the right bolt-ons, and there's close to a 10mph gain in trap speed, which means youve picked up a good 75hp......

You mean a blower by "all the right bolt ons?"

Heads and cam are the lighting. The intake is just the thunder.

Lighting does all the work.

Do the heads and cam and match the intake to it.
