in another thread I described my salvage C5 Z06, imported to Europe and repaired. Today I took a closer look at the car once again. And I have doubts about two elements. One is a strange weld in the driver's side engine compartment. The second one is strangely bent and poorly fitting sheet metal under the chassis (at the height of the seats, from what I remember).
Does it look original, or is this weld some kind of plastic art after an accident?
Does this bent sheet metal indicate any past accidents? Is this an important element?
I don't know if it indicates accident, they are so low to the ground. But should not affect the framing of the car since it's just shielding - that's where you are going to notice issues. This looks fixable? Don't ask me how, I have no idea Just doesn't look like it would impair the driving (to me)
I am a welder and worked as one till I retired before retirment, but these don't look like factory welds would not have such a crooked angle of application, at least for welds done by robots which I think these are from the factory. But both welds are poor and too cold, miminal penatration. Both could and should be redone. JMHO !
I found a thread on the forum where someone also posted photos of the frame in the engine compartment. These welds probably look similar (from a layman's perspective). @killain do you notice the difference?
@JW1985 I understand your concerns, I have been there and felt that, the effect of buying a used car and salvaged. Nevertheless, you bought the car and it is driving straight, that’s the most important. Get your maintenance done as you mentioned in another thread, and remember an old saying, “what is not broken does not need repair.”
You may want to have someone to check the roundness of your wheels while you change the tires at one point in time. My 2 sets suffered small off round creating vertical vibrations at highway speed.
The welds and the sheet metal look GM factory in my humble opinion, all good.
my 2 cents

Thank you all for your opinions, it gives me some relief. The car drives straight, I drove it over 100 km today and my main impression is: "Why did I wait so long to buy a Corvette ;-)" To be honest, the C5 exceeded my expectations, and considering the overall appearance and price, it is quite a bargain.
