So Im building a C5 all from scratch all I have is the body. So I looking for suggestions for literally everything. Specifically an Engine and Transmission. Preferably automatic because the current corvette I have has an automatic trans. Im going for a 900hp+ build if that helps with suggestions. All suggestions are appreciated.
So..... 900+ hp I am going to guess the goal is dedicated strip car?
I have never gone that route but figure a used roller with cage and suspension would be the best place to start in order to save money. Check out the 8s for 8 vids from Happel / Sloppy on yt. It actually cost him 6k.
The power is easy. Need to choose best way to get there for your class / tire restrictions.
Toss us your goal / intent for the car and we can drill down from there. Without that we would just be pissin in the wind with suggestions.
Definitely the safety rules since that will dictate the order of assembly. Think roll cage, tubs, suspension, gear and shafts rating, SFI ratings on everything, etc…

Then you have me who is waiting until AFTER the entire car is assembled and verified functional to do the cage. In my defense, it has been dictated by my otherwise being unable to move the car or open the doors fully in situ so it is something which has had to be put off as a separate project.

Fortunately, you may only have to tear half the car apart for the cage.

Interior is easy to yank, and the tanks were done with bulkheads and about 3 feet of extra line between them making them easy to drop. It's a 6-pt with removable swing arms.

Im trying to a street build that i can take to the strip every now and then. Thats why im looking for the power im looking for. I already decided on tires and that im gonna cage it. Im looking on suggestions for everything else. No suggestion is a bad suggestion. Im not sure what engine and transmission I want to go with.

I am going to cage after the rest of the car is done. After the engine exterior and interior is done then ill cage it.
Does sloppy mention what engine hes using? I wanted to get a texas speed 427 but i also wanna be able to legally drive my vette on the street as well.
He mostly uses junkyard engines 5.3. 4.8 amd sometimes 6.0. He just changes the cam and springs and sometimes opens up the ring gaps. He's known to use 250k mile engine and get 900 easy out of them. If we're talking about the same sloppy guy on youtube.
But his platform for the car is not c5.
80s LTDs on the fox body frame are the go to in those cases.
The engine / turbo / fuel / cam / etc is all translatable to the C5. If you don't care about putting holes in the fenders or hood to fit a single up/forward turbo on the car to keep it affordable and easily serviced then you're good. How to fit a 4L80E or 6L80E in there...... I dunno anything about that with a C5.

I helped a friend put a 4L80E on a c5 a couple years ago so id be able to do it. And i do not at all mind putting a hole in my fenders or hood
I don't know the cost, but On3 apparently has a C5 kit to front mount a single. You can keep AC and do a hood or fender exit, or ditch the AC and run the exhaust out the back.
