What is better the SFI unit or the stock or PB non SFI unit? I know you know the correct answer here, If you use the Summit one it is one and done.
No, I absolutely don't know the "correct" answer.
Any elastomer bonded balancer like Powerbond or summit can fail. Same with the gm ones - and they are known to fail at a rate most deem unacceptable.
The summit bolt on Ring just keeps the outer ring from sliding one direction if it fails - I cannot recall off the top of my head - either forward or backward....
All I know is a LOT of Powerbonds sell and few fail. The referenced summit has a good rep as well but I am guessing they sell a lot less of them due to the price.
ATI cannot fail in the same way but can still fail. Fluiddampr is a different design - I am not sure if it can fail or not.
I put a cheap powerbond on my Supercharged C5 8 years ago and even with the supercharger belt puting a lot of strain on it it is still 100%
This spring I replaced my damper as part of a cam swap on the C6 - guess what I went with. The low buck powerbond AGAIN. I guess that tells you what I think as that is where I put my own money.

No they are all fine products but for just a little more it is a lot more quality. The testing results show it would take a lot to destroy a SFI unit even as it ages. Just another layer of protection.

Just in my line of work I see people save money and spend more because of what they saved in the long run.

SFI Rating is no joke and should be more durable when exposed to extreme use 4 sure! Not sure that translates into it being better (for the average C5 C6 owner) where they any of these will work , they mainly want them to last a long time and not separate.
You can always spend more it seems - surprised someone hasn't jumped in proclaiming ATI SUPERDAMPER or NOTHING ....YET (:-)
Its all good - just don't let a dealership slap on another OEM unit ..
