Re: Viper vs. Vette (Russ M)
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe last year at least Vipers could not compete in SS class. All Vipers were forced to run ASP class, at least that is what I read on the Viper boards.

In autox, the most important factor is the "Spacer". You know, the thing that fills the space between the steering wheel and the seat. Vipers didn't beat vettes at that autox, Viper drivers beat Vette drivers at that autox.
And one final random thought for the day, "Mopars don't go far without towbars". :D

Bryan,
Too bad Paul from your club wasn't there. I guarantee he would have won the event. I think I could have placed in the top three, and chris beat me by almost 3 secs at the last event.
Anyway, I had plans to try to win the SCCA points this year in SS, but I decided to give up on the autocross.
Too much sitting around for 4 runs, and the events are poorly organized, not to mention the rude people who run the events, especially the tech guy at the atlanta scca.
Maybe if I get a cool instructor I can run in the black with Ryan. I moved up from c to a this weekend, but some of these guys at these club events are really uptight.

Re: Viper vs. Vette (Timz06)
Well i just sent my form in and i signed up for black.
Tim i would say you are at the level to at least be in white group then they may let you go to black on sunday. I can say this mist clubs dont like people jumping from group to group. RR is a easy track compair to RA so dont be affraid to go for a high level group. You can only pass on one straight so if you get stuck in a slow run group it will be no fun.
TRumper called me and 2 other viper guys want to go so i think usa muscle will make a good showing against the porsche guys.
see ya

I'm not worried about it, I just don't have the number of events. Hopefully I will get the white. You are right I hate getting held up. I went for the BMW event there my first event ever, and moved from d to c. In c I lapped every car twice each run. Behind some of those M3's I felt like I was on a sunday drive. Last weekend, the red viper was the only car that passed me, I went from c to a. I was passing most cars very easily. I don't think there are many porsches that are going to hang with the viper or the z06, except the 911 turbo, and I don't know how many of those are going to be around.
I am going to cmp again before roebling, that is a very technical track, so I will have even another event under my belt.

I never heard of that. They should run SS unless they've been modified. See here:

How did you guys do against the red z28? I know his car from the scca autox, his name is Jerry Griggs. Good driver. Did you guys run faster than him?

Re: Viper vs. Vette (woosch)
Its all about the driver.
IF you guys want to get a little more competition, go up to an atlanta region event. There is one on april 13th (http://www.atl-scca.org/soloII/rungroups.htm).
I think you will quickly realize what a difference the driver makes after getting beaten on raw time by several cars that you would have never thought of.
If you really want to see what it is all about, enter a national level SCCA Solo II (theres a national tour in Toledo, Ohio and Peru, In), then come tell me that the car is the difference.
BTW, Vipers were allowed in Super stock last year. But go to the scca.org web page and peruse the national championship results in SS (http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/nationals/2002/results/ss.html ) and you will see that out of 52 entrants, not one of them was in a viper. Coincidence, I don't think so.
Also, BTW, my 2002 Z06 in SCCA Autox Super stock Solo II class trim weighs in at 3040 with a 1/4 tank of gas (SCCA certified scales).

Re: Viper vs. Vette (silverz06vette)
Wow, how did a fun event turn into such a he said he said debate, mostly from people who were not there.
I had fun racing that day, we all did. I enjoyed the Viper guys and made some new friends, we all did. I already knew the Viper could compete with a Z06 on a road course like Road Atlanta, now I know it can at an Auto-X event as well.
Yes, best runs of the day on this day gave the edge to the Vipers. They won, period. They took it to the track, just like the Z06 guys did and won, no excuses from here.
I don't buy all things being equal crap. Bottom line is I got skunked by people who are better drivers than me. Yes, this was my first Auto-X event in the Z06 and yes, I have been around an Auto-X course once before, YEARS ago. All of the Viper owners have more Auto-X time than I do, some had better rubber, some had a huge power advantage. So what - they won, I didn't, and I hope the result is different next time. Regardless of the result I will still have fun, still respect the Viper and their owners. We are all car guys.
BTW I could say that I was faster than some of the Vipers on 2 of the 3 races and was shaving a lot of time off run - to - run. But the bottom line is that best run to best run the Vipers took the day, and my hat is off to them.
And I want a rematch :)

Re: Viper vs. Vette (ryan 94viper)
Ryan,
Wish I could be there to play. I also will miss the 24 May Road Atlanta event as my son graduates that day - oh well. I would like to try the Mid-Ga. Auto-X guys again, I heard them say they would never again do the novice school (which helped me) on the same day as a track event. So when you guys want a rematch ring me up, if there is a better way to spend a Sunday than racing other fast cars I don;t know what it is :) Most fun you can have with your clothes on IMO.
Don't forget the drag race event at Silver Dollar Raceway on 30 March, I hope a few Vipers show up, at least there I have the edge, a little :)

Welcome Tony!! It was nice to meet you. One question, Do you have a hitch on the back of your car? I was wonder what kind of trailer we could hook up to you for the next event.
I got to get some work done around the house this w/e, so I can't make it. Have a good time.

Re: Viper vs. Vette (1TONY1)
Tony,
I want a rematch with the other guys, I am not quite ready for you yet :)
After all the years seeing your car at the GaFBA Shootout I am glad we finally met. I hope you bring your F-Body again on the 30th, there will be some serious cars. Hell, bring your Viper and show Optic how it is done :)
Les
PS: Ryan, once they let you on the board it all went to heck in a hand basket anyway :) :)

Ryan, what happened is your caps lock broken?
I'm going to cmp again this coming weekend so I can get more experience before Roebling. The organizer wrote me back about moving into white group and said it was up to the head instructor to make the run groups. Oh well, I'm sure I will get moved up
