Z06 versus Mitsubishi Evolution...
The Z06 is obviously the superior overall vehicle BY FAR, but was anyone else impressed by the Evolution in how close it was to the Z06 in the handling and braking department? The Evo (despite it's rice-boy looks) would make a good daily driver, me thinks. :D

The EVO is very impressive, but I personally would not like driving a car that requires constant high revs just to make good power. I think it looks pretty good in person. As far as a daily driver goes my Jeep Grand Cherokee is all American & better ;)

Here are three different magazine tests on this car.
Road and Track has the EVO listed at :
0 to 60 : 4.8
Qtr Mile : 13.4 at 103
Automobile Magazine has it tested at:
0 to 60 : 5.1
Qtr Mile : 13.9 at 102
Compared to Motor trends times of:
0 to 60 : 4.59
Qtr Mile : 13.08 at 105.12
Either way you look at it, this is a fast car. But how can one magazine test the car almost 1 full second quicker than the other? Are the drivers ar Motor Trend that much better then everyone else?

I don't think Motor Trend have better drivers. You never know what the difference is, might be weather, and it might be the devices they use to measure the speed. You never know but you see that with every car they test in one magazine it is slower than another. I think that magazine times are not what people should go by anyway. :skep:

Ive seen some in action at a local autocross.
They are set up very balanced it appears.
But you simply can't get around the fact that a vette has much wider rubber, similar weight, and lower center of gravity. Plus a more adjustable alignment.
They are currently classed in ASTOCK by the SCCA (goes up against boxster S and C4 vettes) but I don't think they will be there long.
cool car, adding power to turbo cars like this is really easy.
I look forward to the Subaru WRX STI, a similar car but with 2.5 liters of displacement instead of just 2.0
I can also guarantee I could take a bone stock STI to the dragstrip and run a 12.9 with it without spending a time.
probably without any tricks at all on a cold day =)
all fun cars, good time to be a car nut

The new M/T claims that the Evo is quicker than the STi.

WRX is def. a cheap car to trick out and in stock form is fast. But how fast will it be with 5 people in it?

Evo is like the M3. Yes you can make power in the car, and it handles pretty nice. But you have to rev ethe snot out of it to do so. In my buddies M3 the only way to go fast was to be over 6000 RPM all the time.

I root for STi. Just very minor <$1000 mods will get you 350 RWD HP. So the car will prolly be quicker than Z06 at 0-60 times.

There is also a technique involved in revving the engine enough to build boost and engage the clutch without frying it or loosing boost. With no wheelslip, it is a slightly different technique than with our cars. Takes some practice. I tried it in a WRX...I dropped the clutch, it came off boost and BOGGGED for what felt like 3 seconds. I guess you have to rev to 5000 rpm and slip the clutch just enough to launch and stay on boost. Probably takes some practice and is quite different from a car with some wheelspin...

Re: Z06 versus Mitsubishi Evolution... (QUIKAG)
You guys have only just got the Evo, we in the UK have had the last 7 (yes 7) incarnations of this car. Bang for buck this and the Subaru Impreza are hard to beat.
I had a Scooby (Subaru Impreza) for 2 years, I did 36,000 miles in it, used it everyday, it cost next to nothing to service and was 100% reliable. I used it for a track day at a tight and twisty circuit and it blew the doors off of my 1996 supercharged LT4. I sold it recently and bought a Z06.........
The Evo is what I am planning as an everyday car and keep the Z06 for special occasions if I can sell the LT4.
Both are fantastic cars, but competing in different markets.

Can't get past the ugly looks of the EVO. The STI should be a real nice car. Had a deposit on a STI, but I pulled it once I purchased my Z06.

I could pick 100 different cars to be a daily driver and the Evo would not be one of them. I could care less how quick it is.

I don't care for the looks of the WRX; the Evo looks much better IMO (still not that great looking compared to the Z06). Momo wheel + Recaros seats and a fun-looking interior would make it a fun little car. It's a bit overpriced, though. Fortunately, you can get the car without the wing. :)
