Default First Impressions - Toyo T1-S

I just picked up some Toyo T1-Ss and just thought I'd share my first impressions. The first thing I noticed is that they have a better ride to them, almost a softer feel. There not as stiff as the F1-SC. That translated, as I soon found out, to low high speed stability. At anything over 100 mph they feel a little floaty. I bought these tires because I thought they might perform better in the rain, I live in Florida, but I'm wondering if I made the right compromise between wet performance and high speed stability. Still trying to decide. Does anyone else have these tires and if so what's your opinion?

They are awesome in the rain. I did many auto-x and track events with them, and did my top speed run with them on and too many to count high speed autobahn runs, never felt floaty to me. My car is lowered though.

Maybe it's your tire pressure? Some tires 'like' higher pressures.

My car is also lowered. I usually run 36 psi. Maybe I'll crank it up to 40 psi and see how it feels. Maybe it was just windy out. Today wasn't a really great day. I'll run them tomorrow and see what happens with the 40 psi in them.

I have had mine about a month. I have been between 120-130 twice and I did not notice anything unexpected. In the rain they are the best. The T1-S will be my winter tires and the F1s or Pilot Sports the summer.

Wheew.....I am glad to here the good reviews.
I had a panic attack when I saw this thread as I am having my T1-S's put on this week. I too will be using them as my winter tires and I too also wish I could run the combo listed above.

Sounds like you may have too much air @ 36 psi. Try going down towards 30 -32 and see if you like them better.

:yesnod: :yesnod: 36-40 is way to much!! I believe chevy recommends 30 all way around.

:withstupid:

Don't run over 32 psi. There's absolutely no reason to do that.

I have had my Toyos for 18 months, putting on 15k miles. Did not experienc any float at high speed on the Florida backroads. The Toyos are rock solid in the wet as you will find out, much better than the SC's

Your high pressure and a hot day (even more pressure) may have caused the tires to bounce at high speed. I run 30-32 with no issue at any speed)

I guess I'll go with 30 to 32 psi and see how that feels. I also had my alignment done just before I put on the new tires. I don't know if an improper alignment will cause the floaty feeling I'm getting at high speeds. Since everyone seems to love these tires I'm wondering if this may be the problem. Can anyone give me some insight on this issue? Thanks in advance.

I also have the T1-S on mine and I get the same feeling. They don't seem to be as sturdy at high speeds. I also dont think they handle anywhere near as well as the F1 SC's. They are definitely better in the rain though, and also have longer tread life.

It may simply be a function of a softer sidewall compared to the Supercars...
Maybe Toyo felt ride quality was more important than all-out performance

Y'all do know that a new tire is not ready to perform, right? It needs some wear and some heat cycles before it's good to go. You shouldn't take a new tire to the track or do a top speed run with it. Also, the TS-1 has a greater tread depth than the F1 and you will get more "play" with those taller, slimmer tread blocks than you did with the huge, low F1 blocks, until you get some good wear and cycles. After the TS-1 gets some heat cycles and wear it is a great all around tire, even on the track, just ask David Farmer.

I believe the T-1 guys this year used the Toyo Proxes RA-1, a purpose built DOT legal racing tire - wear rating 40, but it's molded with 8/32" tread depth. Great tire and fully streetable if you don't drive a lot of junk miles commuting.

I'm thinking about getting a new set for my Z06 too...I've heard of these. I'm in Dallas, TX. Where did you get your sets and how much did you pay for them?

I bought mine at Tire Kingdom for $263.00 each on the rears and $213.00 each on the front. Thats mounted and balanced. Still haven't gotten the chance to drive again yet. When I do I'll give an update on the tires.
